We took a place outside to eat. Even if they spoke mainly Spanish they did a very good service. Answering or questions and helping us with the menu.
To begin, we asked a sangria, quite sweet to my taste... I couldn't really taste the alcohol, but was a good one. We took some tapas: 2 bravas (delicious, with Tabasco sauce and garlic maionese), ensalada, Clochinas Al vapor(very good), Puntilla fresca (it's fried, good but quite oily, wouldn't really recommend). We took a 2 people vegetable Paella, it was good (but not exceptional) to share to 3 . The salt was in a good amount for my friends, but a little salty to me. There was also a considerable amount of oil on it but something that you can get used to. The server thaugh us how to eat it in their way (scratching the borders of the pan, going into the inside of the pan, mixing a little and eating), it assured a better experience.
We ate well, couldn't finish everything (half of 1 portion of bravas and half of Puntilla fresca to take away).
Even if we asked it separately, they gave the ticket as if it was their tasting menu (19,99/person), what stayed cents cheaper than if we payed it separately (if I'm not wrong).
I think taking the tasting menu could be a good idea, because you would still take a dessert, but we were good with that we ordered.
Can't say about the inside because didn't see it, but the personal service gave us a really good experience together with the food.
Edit: the paella serves minimum 2 people, it looks like it's not a lot, but with the things that we took at the side, was quite...
Read moreIn complete honesty, the boat trip was incredibly refreshing and peaceful for which I am truly grateful! With regards to the restaurant, I was brought out a huge amount of food for starters that I didn't ask for and that weren't advertised in the booking I made, nor was this explained by staff when I arrived. Whilst I waited for the paella I didn't touch the starters as at this point I assumed the paella was coming and that these were accompaniments. After a while I asked a member of staff who explained the 4 starters (and a fifth plate of bread) come first and then the paella later. I returned 2 of the 4 plates as it was too much food for me and asked that the paella be brought out to have with the other 2 plates. When the paella arrived it wasn't the black rice I had asked for and the entire lower layer was stuck to the pan. The food was ok but not the best paella I've had (that was in Cap Salou). The staff were attentive and friendly enough but as nice as the place was, it seemed somewhat dated and missing it's spark, that I am sure...
Read moreEl Palmer is a beautiful little town that sits between the lake, ocean and farming fields - predominantly rice.
We came out to see the lake itself and for whatever reason, we didn't manage to do this so instead we walked around d the town and stumbled upon this restaurant. Being English with minimal Spanish "yo no hablo much espanol", it's sometimes hard to communicate, but perseverance and sign language get you far! Luckily, this restaurants had really friendly staff, some of whom spoke English enough to accommodate us. We were travelling with out baby who also got a lot of attention. She lapped this up.
We sat and ate a 3 course meal with the cremdalacrem being the paella. We went with a mixed meat and fish. It came out in a huge dish for two (and baby). It was amazing! The prawns/shrimp were very fresh and the whole thing came to 30 euro which included drinks. Would highly recommend.
The restaurant itself spans across two streets. The main square one one side and the canal on the other so you really get a choice...
