Restaurant Masia Fontscaldes is a hidden gem in the Catalan countryside, located near Valls. Housed in a beautifully restored farmhouse, the restaurant offers an authentic dining experience that highlights traditional Catalan flavors. One of the absolute highlights of the menu is the calçotada, a seasonal feast centered around calçots—grilled spring onions served with a rich and flavorful romesco sauce. The calçots are perfectly charred on the outside while remaining tender and sweet inside, making them an absolute delight to eat. The restaurant serves them in unlimited portions, making it a must-try experience for anyone visiting during the season. After the calçots, guests are treated to a generous selection of grilled meats, including tender lamb chops, flavorful Catalan sausages (butifarra), and juicy pork ribs. These are served with grilled artichokes, beans, and roasted potatoes, adding a rustic and hearty touch to the meal. The meat is cooked to perfection, with a smoky flavor that enhances its natural taste. Another standout dish is the “pa amb tomàquet” (bread rubbed with tomato and olive oil), a simple yet incredibly delicious Catalan staple. The restaurant also offers a selection of homemade desserts, with the Crema Catalana (a Catalan version of crème brûlée) being a particular favorite. The service is warm and attentive, with friendly staff ensuring that guests feel at home. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with wooden beams, rustic decor, and a lively yet relaxed ambiance. Whether you’re visiting for a family gathering or a special occasion, the experience is both memorable and delicious. The wine selection is also impressive, featuring local Catalan wines that perfectly complement the meal. Their house red wine pairs exceptionally well with the grilled meats. In summary, Masia Fontscaldes is a must-visit for anyone wanting to experience true Catalan cuisine in a charming rural setting. The calçotada is an unforgettable culinary experience, and the quality of the food, combined with the warm hospitality, makes it one of the best traditional restaurants in the region.

Read moreWe had Menu Calcotada, for 37 EUR per person (they advertise it as 34 EUR but it's without IVA of course). The calcots were okayish, but maybe it's because it was the end of their season (late March). However, the greatest disappointment was parillada de "carne", which actually had very little meet and was mostly sausage-based (one panceta, one tiny piece of lamb, butifara, chorizo and morcilla)...so no meet really, just different sausages. The desert was orange in wine (nothing special, and a bit too simple for the price), and crema catalana. All in all, a seriously disappointing meal and the price for what you get is insulting. I could recommend at least 3 good masias for calcotada but...
