The staff at the restaurant are very nice and attentive. They were extremely kind and made us feel welcome. However, they certainly need a lot more training and a better connection with the hotel and winery.
Firstly, our cava was served in wine glasses. After having had a tasting at the winery, seeing this was quite a surprise as you can imagine. The server also did not open the cava correctly, which is another thing we would have expected the winery to have trained restaurant staff on.
Our food was quite late, we waited around an hour during dinner service that wasn't too crowded, however our server was very kind and gave us some complimentary dishes to apologise.
Taste of the food was all over the place. The vicchesois was great alongside the scallops - which were definitely the best dish - but the matcha & lime turbot was simply a bad recipe and a bad idea that should not be served. The matcha was far too bitter, we could not taste the lime to alleviate that bitterness and the fish - albeit cooked well - did not have a unique taste on its own and relied on the sauce too much. The pasta with 'white chocolate sauce', shrimp and clams was the poorest dish. There was no sight of the white chocolate sauce and though it should be subtle, we could not notice it at all. The clams were fine but very few and the shrimps just did not taste that good (and they were not cleaned). Both the shrimps and clams were sent with shells and made the experience of eating mafalde pasta quite difficult.
Their cake desserts were not great either. Pistacchio cake was OK and had a great lime taste, but the lemon cake was far too sweet and sugary for us.
The prices are OK for the ambiance and service, however they need to do major work on their menu and further train their staff to match the ambitions...
Read moreAn exceptional meal offset by very confused service. My request for a reservation went unanswered for days until just the day before when they checked to see if I would accept the special menu for St. Joan. The courses and wines were quite interesting and creative although the staff got confused on the pairings halfway through. At the end I sat for 25 minutes with no attention or closure to the meal. When someone finally came by they asked only if I wanted something else... No offer for coffee, etc. as you...
Read moreWhat happened with the service at the restaurant, Mastinell? I used to send all my tourists, friends and sometimes come myself with the groups. The last time I had any problem of the same type was like 7 years ago and after everything was ok. The reception guys did great work with booking and receiving the guests. Thank you! The food was good, the presentation interesting. But the waiters trying to avoid you and behaving strangely unfriendly? Not even saying good bye... Really hope it was an exception...
