Gentz Residency & Restaurant — Restaurant in Colombo

( Edited for reply ) We stayed here for night and that was our last day in colombo. I have two things to be addressed here.

We settled at the room after having an our breakfast around 7:30pm and room didn’t have proper working latch. We had to lock only with the door key inside. Around 9pm somebody tried to open our room no idea who was that. We initially thought someone unknowingly did. But this gave us traumatic experience because we didn’t see a couple or female around the restaurant and the stay had a bar inside itself. There were random men coming and going. We ignored it and slept we had lot of disturbances from the terrace like chairs and tables pulled out and people walking in the corridors. Around 12:20am i got up to drink water and in few seconds again someone tried to open our door from outside and i waited for a minute to happen it again and to call the police. But nobody did it again. Therefore i slept off. I booked this stay only for the tag family restaurant though it was named Gentz! I never saw a couple or women around the stay. Later that night a Tuktuk driver too warned us that the area this stay located is not safe. Later while checking out there was a lady in the reception. But no use.

They had restaurant with in the premises and we ordered 2 Chicken fried rice because we were told the portion will be only one. We paid 1500Rs each totally 3000Rs. The same night we went for a day tour and came asked for two chicken fried rice the different waiter said it will be large and two people can have since the portion is big. We silently agreed to cross check the portion without arguing. Later it was a huge one and two can easily have it for full. It again costed only 1500rs. We realised that we were scammed that day morning. I will add the pictures of the single portion they scammed and the actual portion.

Confusing hot water cold water knobs and connections, no dustbin, only single towel was given with lot of dirt strains and our Ac remote dint work properly.

Reply : 200% Sure it’s not the same! We dint feel complete therefore we ordered chicken fried rice in the noon and it costed 3000Rs. Look at the portion in the picture it is one cup Vs One huge full...

THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU BOOK HERE IF YOU ARE A GIRL or A COUPLE!!! Leaving aside my concerns about the name of the place - Gentz, I only agreed to stay here only because of the tag that it was a family restaurant.

I had such a traumatic experience here. When we checked in, it was all good. They even let us check in earlier as our bus reached earlier than we anticipated but later that night someone tried opening our door twice at different times. This put me on high alert and instantly regretted coming here.

Secondly, we were scammed while ordering food. In all of srilanka, the portion sizes were too big that me and my husband shared single plate of dish. Here, in the morning when we checked in, we enquired them about the portion size and the person said it will be enough for just one person. So, we ordered 2 dishes and paid 3000lkr. Later that day night, when we asked for the same dish of 2 quantity, there was a different person in the kitchen and then he informed us that one portion will be enough for both of us. And it just costed 1500lkr. We were downright scammed.

An employee stole my credit card details and charged over $100 CAD!!!!! The manager did nothing, the police did nothing. I tried to check out at 9 am, however, the outside door was locked with a padlock!!!!! I called the manager, 5 minutes later someone opened it. I guess if there was a fire in the night people would die waiting for someone to open the padlock!!!!! In most countries that is illegal!!!!! I went to the police, they reviewed the camera footage which clearly showed the employee with my credit card!!! No one should EVER stay here!!! VERY DANGEROUS!!! The police don't help tourists!!!
