It was the worst experience ever! I had called a month ahead to inquire and book for my friend who was flying in from Australia. The guy asked me to make an advance payment to confirm the booking. I said that I will come in on Sunday or Monday to make the payment. I called again on Sunday evening asking if breakfast was included and a landmark to find the place. A different guy had answered the phone this time and said an advance payment was not necessary and I can make the payment when I check in at the property. So I asked his name and he said he was Mr. Piyal. I called the day before she was to check in and wanted to confirm about the booking. The man on the phone said that he had given the room to someone else as I did not make the advance payment. Even after I explained that Mr.Piyal had confirmed the booking, I was told Mr. Piyal is the cook and therefore any confirmations from him was not valid. Now why would the cook answer the phone if he wasn't authorized to confirm booking. Moreover, the manager was rude and lectured me on how I should have asked for the designation of the person speaking!! Very unprofessional and im highly disappointed in the service as well as the way he spoke. He also said that i was wasting his time. Will never recommend this...
Read moreWe stayed here with friends (2 couples) for 3 nights. While it is a quiet oasis in the city, think twice before booking here. The location of the pool - some bedrooms have windows opening to the pool - means that when guests decide|to have a swim at 10pm you will hear it! |The beds had a lightweight quilt/duvet which did not have a cover on it. Our friends reported the same on their bed. I am doubtful they are changed between customers and so their cleanliness is questionable (mine certainly had marks/stains on it). There were no top sheets provided either so it did not feel “nice” sleeping under the cover-less quilt. The bathrooms are just okay in terms of cleanliness and amenities.|Another consideration is the location - it is about a 20 minute to tuk-tuk ride from the city centre. If I had my choice again I would pick a place closer to the sights. NB: however within walking distance of the villa is Borella Cemetery - we had an enjoyable and interesting two hour walk around, reading old gravestones. The author Arthur C. Clarke is buried here. |Nevertheless the breakfasts were great and there was always plenty to eat. The staff were very pleasant...
Read moreSo this place is more of a homestay than a hotel. It’s not nearly as nice as pictures (but I never really expect they are ) ||It’s started pretty badly as I had booked a deluxe double and upon arrival was told wasn’t available! So that’s annoying seeing as it clearly stated that’s what I’d booked. They presumed that by pushing two singles together it was acceptable. It was a completely different room. The room was small dark and quite unkempt to be honest. Cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and a couple of dead cockroaches. The rooms weren’t cleaned daily and my bin wasn’t emptied and I had to ask for loo roll. The breakfast was nice though, fruit and omelette pretty standard for Sri Lanka ||The pool looks nice but not really for swimming in. The little garden was quaint, and the staff were nice and polite and got us taxis wherever we needed to go ||There’s s small supermarket round the corner which was handy and I recommend eating at ‘paradise road the...
