We’ve been to the beach park on many occasions, but decided not to after yesterdays sub-par experience. We typically go with kids on Sundays and as the protocol at port city dictates we make a prior reservation. Similarly we made a reservation this time around and when we got there we requested to be seated in area with the couches/coffee table. They then mentioned that we need to specifically mention when booking that we need to be seated in the area with the couches. That was fine with us as the area with couches were larger than what we needed. Instead we sat at a table closer to the bar and band as it was too sunny to sit at the tables outside. My wife’s 80 year old parents were with us and we went for a swim with the kids after settling them at the table.
After the swim we wanted to move away from the band and bar area as we were preparing to have dinner with our toddler kids. We informed the waitress that we were moving to a table outside, to which she was fine with. After we got to a table outside and sat down. The same waitress comes running and asks us to move to the adjacent table as the table we sat on had been reserved. We were fine with that and moved again. Not even a minute had gone by another person from the service staff comes running and says the table we just sat on is also reserved. Btw none of the outside tables had a “reserved” notice on it and the waiter was placing people as per his preference. At this point my wife pointed out that we had also made a reservation prior to coming and inquired why we were being treated like we just walked in without one.
They wanted us to sit in the other end of the outside area furthest from the kids playing area. My wife was not happy with this arrangement and there was an isolated table close to the kids playing area and we decided to sit there and manage with the limited space. We had 7 adults, one 10 year old and 2 toddlers.
The service was so sub-par that our round of drinks took forever to arrive. When the frozen margarita priced at Rs. 4,000 arrived, it had melted and become a regular margarita. We sent it back and asked for another one, to which they obliged.
Once the food arrived, given that we were cramped into a single table with no space to house everyone, I ended up eating whilst standing.
When all this was happening, the manager and owner I noticed was sat at a table nearby, didn’t even bother speaking to us to address shortcomings, despite noticing the delays and lack of space.
Now to make matters worse, the two tables we were kicked out from remained unoccupied the entire time we were having dinner making zero revenue.
The food their is mediocre at best, and we just go for the ambiance and to get some sea time for the kids. However we noticed that there was distinct smell coming from the water and realized that the water is contaminated. This is something new and hadn’t experienced before.
It’s safe to say we won’t be stepping foot in this place again after this experience.
The ambiance was the only thing they had going for them but with contaminated water, we definitely won’t be going there again and if you have kids, getting into the water there is something you should rethink. We’ve been to many beaches around Sri Lanka and have never come out smelling like that.
If you do go to this place cos of the ambiance, grab some drinks early on and move elsewhere for dinner. You’ll have a better dining experience elsewhere for sure.
Also before their staff come and reply to this review about their minimum spends to be allowed to sit at a table, our total bill was Rs. 40,000 which I’m pretty sure is well above the average...
Read moreI don't give one-star reviews to any establishment unless the overall experience was pretty bad. Visited on a Friday evening hoping to spend some quality time there, the place was not that crowded. We ordered their mojito cocktail(900LKR) and the homemade ginger beer (300LKR) from their beverages selection, the drinks were not bad. Mojito was good. We ordered chicken strips with fries and it came to the table without taking much time. We were hungry at this point and we began having it hoping to order some more foods from the menu. Suddenly something caught my eye and there was a dead fly in our plate under the few chips left. There was a good amount of black pepper on the plate and the dead fly looked the same as a piece of pepper. I called a person there, who was at the premises (later he identified himself as the manager) and show him the dead fly on our plate. He acted quickly and took away the plate within seconds without any apology. (later he insisted that he apologized to us at that time but he didn't. We were sure about that). We waited there for around 30mins, but no one showed up, I walked to the person who I showed the fly and asked him friendly, "did you see the fly on our plate?" And his answer was just a "yes" in a rude way. After I said him "you didn't even say sorry", he said sorry. But not in an apologetic way. I was angry and upset. I asked "are you sure this is how you wanna handle this?", His answer was "yes". When I asked him where should I complain about this and his answer was "complain wherever you want". I asked about the owner and he gave no information about it, "call the hotline and make a complaint." Was the answer. And further, he said that "this is a tropical country, so there are flies." What a wonderful comment by a manager of a newly opened establishment within the last couple of weeks! We were disgusted and wanted to leave. I was asked to pay for the drinks and the chicken strips and the fries was waived from the bill. In the end, someone who called himself the owner of the place called me. The only thing he did was defend his "manager". And accused me of making a scene. I understand these things could happen in a place where someone prepares food. It's not acceptable but after happening an incident like this, it's all about handling the situation without escalating the situation by saying random stupid things. Shout out to the guy, working there who tried to talk to me and apologize after all...
Read moreA terrible experience dealing with the manager named Ivy. I was met with a Ridiculous attitude and rudeness when I showed my disappointment for promising me a booking that wasn’t available anymore. I do not recommend planning a loved one’s event at a place with such little regard to professional service. She first made a mistake with whom I had been in correspondence with, telling me it wasn’t herself. Then when she admitted it was her, she did not simply admit her mistake with my booking. She had already given the space to another a few days before my inquiry but asked me to come see it anyway telling me it was available. All in writing on WhatsApp.
When expressing this obvious mistake to her she offered me a smaller and far less ideal area for a 50 people party. One with a table inside that can sit 10. Squeezed in between the previously booked area and the rest of the restaurant. There was not even an apology. When I had to once again frustratingly tell her this won’t work, she told me “if you are not ok with this space you don’t have to take it”. Which then pushed me into me asking for her supervisor, I was first refused and then after much pushing she got a man named Pradeep over. Who she introduced to me to in a strange manner which made me ask twice if this really was her boss. He did try to help but he didn’t address her rudeness even whilst she remained to mutter something behind his back looking the other way. I walked out refusing to be treated in such a manner anymore. What a joke. We deserve far better...
