Avoid this place at all costs. Disgusting, unhygienic, and overpriced food. Read the previous 5 star reviews over the past few months, but the current level of service and quality of food is unimaginably below par from those ratings. Dosa had no presence of Urid flour, the waterish brinjal gravy they call sambar was inedible. The village women had this amazing ability to make ulundu wade without urid flour. Hoppers were appalling and the katta sambol was a mixture of raw chilli flakes and salt. Urid flour, rice flour, lime, fresh red chillies, vegies and spices are abundant in Anuradhapura, hence there is no excuse for these folks to dish out garbage like this at Colombo prices.
Only exception was the juice corner which continuously dished out Amazing Nelli, Passion, and mixed fruit juices at very reasonable prices.
The alternative eateries are, the stretch of boutiques near the three lakes or Sunāhatha, or Salgadu Bakers. For more splendor could try Alankulama...
Read moreMy advice for foreign tourists who don't know the language. How to order a meal. Walk around the place and check what's available. Everything is vegetarian and a lot of items look vegan. Take photos of the items you want. Go to the window where you place the order. Show them the photos of the items you want and say "one", "two" or whatever amount you want. The lady will write your order on a coupon that you then pass on to a lady within the dining hall (you need to catch their attention). After a few minutes she will collect your order for you. I also ordered a juice and at the juice station the lady seemed confused that the coupon didn't specify which juice I ordered so I pointed to the one she was making at the time. Food was delicious I recommend the place for a cheap meal. Be ready for a lot of flies. It seemed that around 2pm there was a change of shift. The place slowed down (maybe they were closing) and food choices...
Read moreThis was our fourth visit to this place. It had been closed for some time for renovations and recently reopened. Unfortunately, the standard is no longer what it used to be. We were disappointed with both the cleanliness and the overall atmosphere.
In the past, they offered a wide variety of sweetmeats, traditional local dishes, fresh juices, and rice served with delicious curries. Sadly, this time the quality and standard have noticeably dropped. The food lacked taste, and the curries served with rice did not complement each other.
The cleanliness was also not up to the mark. Plastic bags were floating around the premises, and the grass was overgrown and unattended. Most concerning of all, the place still does not provide washroom facilities. For foreign visitors especially, this leaves a very poor impression and serves as...
