My partner and I went here six days out of our seven-day stay only because we didn't find it on our first night. We went to three different places in the local area, and this is by far the best. It's also one of our favorite places we've eaten during our month in Sri Lanka. I honestly can't recommend this place enough. But, as always, if you like it spicy, don't forget to mention this, and they go all in on the flavors. On our sixth day here, I managed to catch a nice three-kilogram giant trevally from the beach, so I knew this place would be the best place to take it, and they didn't disappoint. They made us a beautiful curry with it. (I'll attach some pictures.) We would recommend the prawn and chicken curry, tuna steak, mixed salad, and carrot salad. The tomato soup wasn’t good, it was like someone squeezed a tomato and you’re drinking the juice.
The family is so nice and welcoming, however we were uncomfortable through our whole meal. We were the only ones there and the owner was standing by us listening the whole time. He even at one point asked me to pay for some glasses he needed while I was eating. I politely declined, after already buying their homemade curry he was selling me to support. It’s really rude to ask your customer to buy you things. My boyfriend and I were looking to enjoy a dinner together but felt awkward the...
Read moreWe were looking for an authentic Sri Lankan experience for lunch while staying at the Anantara Resort. Our driver took us to this lovely home restaurant in a little back alley in Tangalle. My partner and I both have very restricted dietary requirements and the host was very obliging in preparing food we could eat. We had lovely grilled seasoned chicken with homemade BBQ sauce and boiled vegetables. We spoke to the father while we waited for our meal. He told us stories about his experience of the 2004 Tsunami. Very sad but also inspiring to hear how the Sri Lankan people have recovered from this tragedy. The family have created an eating area in a beautifully kept garden and we thoroughly...
