The restaurant was suggested by our hotel for the authentic food. However our experience was bad (it could have been circumstantial).
On a good note, they had live music with popular western and Dutch songs. The mango juice was also really tasty.
We ordered the fish curry and the chicken pittu. Both came 1h late and also 15 mins apart.
Our waitress could not understand any English (even though during the dinner, we did not see a single local customer) and made also a mistake with the order. The fish from the curry was completely expired and overcooked to the point that it was tangy. The chicken pittu came with potato curry and lentil curry. Both side dishes were completely cold. The chicken was totally overcooked to the point it was too fibrous to eat.
At the end when we tried to pay, they were resisting so that we buy dessert then after insisting, we paid the food and they gave us the wrong change back !
We have been 5 days in the country and this was the WORST quality and...
Read moreIf there is such a thing as “restaurant umami” avid cooks will know what I mean this one is it. Other reviewers have mentioned how good the food is and the service and I agree. When I came in I was so hot ( Sri Lanka hot sun) I ordered a beer and water. Before the goods were served I got ice cold towel which they offer to all customers as they cool off and fans are everywhere. Awesome touch. cold. With my side order of fries ketchup was on side and I asked for hot sauce and was told they have tobasco upon which I frowned but said ok. The sauce I got instead was nice green chili sauce freshly made. Great customer service. Food portions are huge. The only negative thing was that i was charged 1,580 rupees for side order of fries which was higher than another main dish that came with fries. My fries were not that much. I chalk it up to server not knowing what to charge as side fries was not on menu. Just give this...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Palhena Restaurant in Anuradhapura with my family, and it was an experience worth sharing. The food was simply amazing, each dish was bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. We enjoyed a variety of dishes, including biriyani, cheesy pasta, chicken fried rice, battered prawns, a fried cashew dish, and a fried pork dish.
The service was equally commendable attentive, friendly, and efficient.
What also stood out was the serene atmosphere. Surrounded by lush greenery, the restaurant exudes a traditional Sri Lankan charm that adds to the overall dining experience. It's a calm, inviting place that perfectly complements the wonderful food.
A big shout out to the entire team at Palhena Restaurant for making our evening special. We’re already looking forward to our...
