“Great seafood, great value—but someone, for the love of all things holy, get the mosquitoes out of the kitchen.”
Hidden away in a Tangalle side street, The Fine Dine delivers where it matters most: bloody good seafood. Their garlic-ginger prawns? Spot on. The grilled cuttlefish? Also excellent. But here’s the catch: same sauce, same taste—so what exactly makes one ‘grilled’ and the other ‘special’?
Now, consistency matters. The cuttlefish had a punchier sauce than the prawns, so if you eat the prawns last, they taste like a faded memory of what they could have been. Not a dealbreaker, but something to fix. Also, let’s talk presentation: serve it sizzling on a hot iron pan, and you’ve got a real showstopper. Nobody likes seafood that turns cold before the conversation does.
Sides? Salad was decent but could have been bigger. Dessert? Fried banana with vanilla ice cream—absolutely banging.
But here’s where things go south: mosquitoes. Swarms of the little bloodsuckers. Look, I came for prawns, not to be eaten alive myself. Some spray, some anti-mosquito smoke, anything—please.
Despite all that? Still a 5/5 for the food, the portions, and the value. Just fix the sauce balance, heat up the plating, and declare war on the mosquitoes, and this place would be near perfect.

From the moment we arrived, the staff greeted us with genuine smiles and helpful recommendations. Their hospitality truly enhanced the experience.
I highly recommend trying the seafood—it’s among the best I’ve ever had. The seafood devilled, a traditional Sri Lankan dish, was full of flavor, and the prawns, calamari, and fish were all cooked to perfection. The sides—crispy chips, rice, and fresh salads—complemented the meal wonderfully.
Don’t skip dessert! The fried banana with ice cream and pancakes were absolutely delicious.
While prices are slightly above the local average, the quality of ingredients and overall experience make it...
Read moreThe end of April is already a time when many restaurants close earlier, because only "few" tourists are still on the road. So if you are out for a long time (after 8pm) (e.g. safari tour), you might have problems with dinner. Our driver was so nice and called here on the way back and asked that restaurant still open for us. This was no problem, thumbs up! When we arrived, we were greeted in a friendly manner. The location is a bit hidden, but a trip there is worth it in all cases. Nice ambience and good music. The food was great and the prices are ok. Only the noodles resemble the German prices ;) Nevertheless, high praise to the guys, come here with pleasure and...
