Pho88 is a pretty new place in the redeveloped area around Elisedal. With a modern, but also metropolitan and somewhat generic look it is still quite inviting. The menu is clearly communicating allergenes, but this is also where the disappointment kicks in. Most options always contain animal ingredients, so as a vegan/vegetarian, you are very limited, even though Vietnamese cuisine is rather vegan friendly. On top of that, the menu is another red flag by being a sort of “best of” of Asian food in Sweden, with the likes of Pad Thai and Red Curry next to the Vietnamese options.

The food itself is cheap and portions are big, but the quality is not worth it. The summer rolls are mainly rice noodles and lack crunch or fresh herbs, the stir fry is a simple thickened soy sauce that gets disgusting after 2-3 bites - so the large portion size doesn’t help.

Plenty of better places...

Me and my partner each ordered a red curry takeaway, and unfortunatley his was probably the least tasty/flavourfull red curry I've ever eaten. Especially the sauce was very watery and had very little flavour. The rice was dry 5 minutes after we bought it. As someone else in the reviews already pointed out, it feels as if especislly the rice had been prepared earlier and just reheated in a microwave, making it very dry, some to the point that it was stale/crunchy. Can't speak for the other food, but if you are in the mood for red curry there are plenty of better places in Gothenburg...

Review for Pho88, Fredriksdalsgatan 4A, Göteborg

Unfortunately, Pho88 seems to have lost its spark. What once might have been a promising Vietnamese spot now feels like an afterthought. The food appears to be pre-cooked and simply reheated in the microwave—something that’s hard to overlook when you’re expecting the freshness and vibrancy Vietnamese cuisine is known for. The flavors are flat, the textures off, and the overall experience underwhelming. With a bit more care and fresh preparation, this place could turn things around—but for now, it’s...
