First of all, we are giving two stars because the panini and the sausage bread we had were reasonably edible—not overly salty like those from other vendors. If it weren’t for that, this place would deserve just one star.
The main issue is the racially biased attitude of the male staff member. All we did was check whether the sausage bread on display was actually an apple pie based on its appearance. In response, he gave us that typical Swiss gesture—clicking his tongue and shaking his head in disapproval.
Such behavior in a service-oriented role suggests a deeply ingrained sense of racial superiority and discriminatory values.
At the time, we brushed it off since it was the first day of our trip, but now on the fifth day, having seen that same disapproving expression from other Swiss locals in different areas, I feel compelled to write this review.
I don’t know how many other tourists will see this post, but behavior like that—especially when experienced repeatedly from various locals—can genuinely ruin someone’s mood and travel experience.
On top of that, when we were about to leave the shop, the female staff member telling me to throw away a piece of tissue left by other tourists who had shared our table was just the final straw.
Does the HR department at Rigi Kulm have some kind of policy that only hires people with racial prejudice?
Honestly, after experiencing and observing various things over our 10-day trip, I feel like reporting all of this to the Swiss Tourism Board. But I’m not sure they would even take such behavior seriously or take any corrective action.
Perhaps they’re simply exhausted from overtourism and have decided not to care anymore.
Anyway, please refer to objective Google reviews, and I hope you won’t let such unpleasant experiences ruin your valuable travels.
(Our visit took place on June 6, 2025, between 10 and 11 a.m. We were a group of four including a child, and we ordered one panini, one sausage bread, a slice of chocolate cake, a cup of coffee, a bottle of soda, and an ice cream.)
Read moreHad worst experience at self- service restaurant/kiosk. Took a kids menu along with 2 other dishes and was charged 65 EUR. But upon finding a table and settling, found kids menu was charged in excess. It was around 10 EUR and the lady at the counter charged double and when asked was not ready to return extra 10 charged. Felt very bad and was not customer friendly also. She was like who asked to move out of the counter, if you see not checking your bill... while at lunch, the queue was very long and you cannot expect anyone to check what was charged for each and every bill... this may give a bad impression to any tourist about Swiss... which I don't want to (Though am not tourist, ...
Read moreVery poor service and unfriendly staff. Unfortunately this was the only place to hide from bad foggy weather, and we were surprised how can any hospitality sector be so rude to the costumers. If my staff was this unfriendly to the tourists staying at my apartment I would be out of hospitality business very, very soon. The place looks outdated. I'm not sure if that's how swiss people are in general, but I sure hope this was an exception. I would say avoid it, but I don't think you have an option if you by any reason visit this train stop...
