Restaurant du Jura — Restaurant in Chevroux

I had a late lunch in this traditional restaurant situated in the village Chevroux in an enclave of the canton of Vaud surrounded by Fribourg land, a strange repartition of territory. This last Friday of January 2025 the restaurant was full but I managed to get the last table in the café section. The restaurant serves traditional local food and is meat leaning although when I visited you could also chose between a large number of mussel options. Vegetarian alternatives are uninspiring. I chose an excellent ox cheek accompanied by an equally good local red served by the glass. There wine list is extensive with many high-end local alternatives, mostly from nearby Mont Vully. Would have loved to try the restaurant but in spite of it being „open“ according to google website we arrived and he told us that it was closed today; he forgot to change the information on the web. Very disappointing because the staff was there doing mis-en-place, so theoretically a good host could have accommodated us for a simple meal, especially when one takes into consideration that in Chevroux the other restaurant was also closed and the town offers nothing more, not even a supermarket. A real jewel in this unknown or less known village. This family restaurant has been open and crossed four generations. There is a great ambient in the terrace with many interesting plants and trees. Staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. There is a great energy in the team and is fully reflected in the end product: the food. Food is creative, tasteful and made up of high quality ingredients.
