I had decided to take my wife up to the Colmanicchio at Cardada (1340 meters) for an early Valentines get away. |My wife and I spent the best 3 nights here.|The New Owners Davide and Susy treated us like a King and Queen. |The food was stupendous. Beside the included breakfast we had lunch and dinner there. |We had Stinko (pigs knuckle) with risotto is out of this world, rosti dishes were fabulous, veal cutlet with polenta delicious and very filling.|Dessert - go for the Apple Strudel - mouth watering and fanatically delicious, be warned it s huge.|The wife and I feel like we gained 10 pounds in the 3 days we spent there.|The room we stayed in was room number 4 (45 m2) called Tamaro. It had a huge balcony |The wake up called was to the early morning sun with a fantastic view of the valley and Laggo Maggiore breath taking.||You can go up for just lunch or dinner it can be reached by cable car from Orselina at 395 meters above sea level to Cardada at 1,340 meters above sea level in just 5 minute or you can hike up (no cars or buses).||All we can say is do it when you are the Locarno region of Switzerland you will not be...

I was very excited to eat organic/local Swiss food up in the mountains. But I have to say I was a bit disappointed. My salad to start was beautifully composed and very good. I then had a dish, (stinco di maiale) which is a pigs' shin usually cooked for hours and very soft, it should melt in your mouth. It looked great but it was cooked in the smoker and the effect was not what I expected. The meat was almost tough and it had a very smokey taste, sometimes almost bitter like beer. It was served with saffron risotto which also had an off taste. I did not enjoy it.|My kids had the pasta and the lasagna and did not eat much of it. Not enthusiastic.|Not sure if I went for the wring thing. Maybe next time I will just get the cold cuts and some cheese it seemed a much easier option.
