Driving a car full of hungry scouts over Como for a gathering, I couldn’t resist adding a few more miles to test a universal truth: KFC tastes better in other countries. Because in Italy - nothing. No KFC within 30 miles. So, Switzerland it was.
After a dozen roundabouts, some creative GPS detours to dodge the Swiss vignette, and a short 15-minute trip, we landed at what turned out to be the finest standalone KFC I’ve ever visited. And I’ve seen a few.
Yes, the bill was gloriously Swiss: about €50 (47 or 49 francs) for two or three bucket meals - and that’s without drinks. But for a pack of teenagers hungry for new experiences (or just plain hungry), it was money well spent. Who knows, maybe it even shaped their character along with their cholesterol.
The order process was uneventful (global drink fountain #2, naturally, was out of order - a KFC tradition - aha! Got you. Not here do!). Staff were kind, guests polite, and the food was classic KFC: crispy, juicy, finger-lickin’ predictable. Just slower. Because in Switzerland there is no fast food, There’s only good food, served at the speed of alpine time.
And that’s the real charm. No downgrades, no shortcuts — just chicken, fries, corn, and coleslaw standing proud, framed by a spotless Swiss backdrop.
So yes: it costs double. But it also feels double. Double clean, double polite, double worth it.
Good job, KFC Ticino. Inspiring, in its...
Read moreFirst time in a KFC here in Switzerland. Took them long to open a bunch of restaurants and there are still only a few around.
After the huge let-down of Dunkin Donuts Switzerland (Donuts are baked...not fried) we wondered how KFC will hold up. Of course it's not the place you'll choose when you look for healthy food. We weren't...all we wanted were some fried pieces of chicken.
We chose a bunch of back chicken pieces. Hot, fresh, meaty....crispy. As it should be. Freshness was good, meat quality as well. Service was fine (a bit of a language barrier due to the location in the Italian part). Prices are quite high compared to the US, but this is Switzerland, so that was to be expected. The place is quite big and there's plenty of parking right out front.
Just a small order to sample this time. But what we got was really fine, so we surely will be back and try some other items. This place here has potential. Good to grab a bit after...
Read moreDissapointment in comparison to US chains. Family bucket with sides not fit for even 2 people with measly side orders....1st time eating at KFC in europe and Mendrisio also let me down as we received an 8 piece bucket with only 7 peaices inside. With a huge staff of eight people standing around looking bewildered and confused its no wonder the price is absurd. The cashier seemed lost in terms of knowing the menue. Food was nothing less then a huge let down....will not be...
