Doppio Gusto — Restaurant in Freienbach

Since Sept 2020 Doppio moved to a brand new location. Just 2 minutes by car away though. The new place looks fantastic; it is what the place should be. Perfect.

The food is still amazing for what you are getting: you are getting good standard Italian food. No Michelin stars, but just good standard: with this quality the restaurant would do well in the middle of Zurich as well.

First: the Pizza's are just amazing. Dieci is the ruler around Zurich, but these pizza's are really better. You can taste the decision of the management and the execution of the cooks.

The anti-pasta are like they should be: taste and texture. The Pasta's are great and tasty. Al-dente is the standard, but if you ask everything is possible of course. Deserts are what they should be. And after dinner you get a 'shot' of limoncello or meloncello. Only part of the food I would not rate perfect is the meat; the kind you would normally get in a steakhouse: the tenderness is there but the taste is ok. The wine-list is great. You can lose yourself there, but their house wine is perfect as well.

I also read about the waiters. These are (almost?) all real Italian. A bit busy and less like a Swiss-robot. Some of them probably don't speak more than restaurant-German. But most of all, they are real people. If they make a mistake or just forget about you: it can happen. If they realize, they are actually sorry and they make it up. A mistake can happen, but how you deal with it; that makes great staff; and they are! And like always: if you are a kind humar to them, they will be kind(er) to you!

Very good traditional Italian restaurant. Pizza, pasta, meat and fish available from the menu. Pizza is well cooked and prepared with top ingredients. We took both special flour and normal one; taste wise the second is my favorite. Italian beer on tap. Price in line with quality and service given. Friendly staff. Will put this restaurant in my list of places to come back!

Edit: we came today for a second time, and I need to downgrade by two stars. While food stands very well, like in our first visit, the service today has been unacceptably slow (one star less). We had to wait 10-15‘ just to order our food, and got the impression that our waiter (not the same very professional girl we had last time) was not interested to serve our table. Even on call, we had to go thru a colleague to get him finally there (to order dessert). On top, and that‘s the worse of the night, I ordered a hazelnut ice cream scoop and got an almond instead. Once I asked because of the „error“, the waiter went back to kitchen and came back a minute later to excuse that hazelnut was not available. I got 100% the impression that they tried to cheat me. The place is amazing! Was really surprised that something like this exists in this country as usually is being saved on the interior. But this place looks modern and classy. Waiters were friendly and helpful although I must say we waited a bit longer to get the ordered food. We really enjoyed and forgot about the time, so left the restaurant as the last guests and no one disturbed us, just greeted us with smile😀 The good thing is that if you want to continue enjoying nice ambient and drinks, there is a bar next to it! Would say from the same owner. The guests were a bit weird 😉 Anyway would come back for sure and ‘ve already spread the news...
