We visited Canton Glarus because our family had emigrated from there to the USA. The hotel is located in the small town of Elm about as far from the usual Swiss tourist routes as one can get. For us, that was exactly what we were looking for. Our rooms had a million dollar view out the backside of the hotel on a pastoral scene with high Alps in the background. The owner, René, is very friendly and speaks very good English. He was ready with advice about hikes, other nearby towns, the weather, etc. Our room was fine and about the size of an average European hotel room. Breakfast (included) was ample with fresh breads and rolls, yogurts, meats, cheeses, eggs, juices, coffee, etc. The hotel also serves dinner on some evenings. (Note- If you want to eat there make sure to confirm with them in the morning that they will be open that evening.) If you have a car there is free parking across the street. The hotel does have WiFi but it was not working up on the floor we were on at the time of our stay. The hotel does have...

Read moreHere's the review I just wrote for yelp:||Love this hotel, the people who run it, and the location! This occasion was the second time I've stayed and it will not be the last. At 85 francs for a single it is one of the best deals in Glarus. Book directly with the hotel and save, on line they wanted 120 francs. ||||The owners, Rene and Barbara, (and Lia) were working when I stayed and they were obviously dedicated to making sure that each guest had the best ever visit to Elm. I strongly recommend a visit to Elm for anyone who likes the Alps!||||The hotel restaurant featured various dishes made with wild game (usually in the fall) and it was delicious. I tried the cheapest red wine and found it to be quite good. (In my mind, both the cheapest and most expensive wines at a restaurant should be enjoyably drinkable but, that's not case at most restaurants.) ||||The hotel restaurant has a deck which is one of the best places to sit/read and enjoy the Alpine scenery and watch the constant activity of high altitude...
