Café Gletscherschlucht — Restaurant in Grindelwald

We stayed 3 nights at Room 23, which offered a unique view of the trail headed to the gorge. The room was comfortable and clean, with extremely efficient housekeeping service done while we were at breakfast every day! We really looked forward to the breakfast which was a generous selection of local cheeses, charcuterie, delicious breads & spreads, muesli & yoghurts, orange juice and hot chocolate, and a boiled egg on request. The owners are extremely kind and genuine, and we really felt like we were staying with a friend. The view from the restaurant is spectacular. I only wish they had firmer, larger pillows like we have in Asia, but otherwise I was very happy with everything. The trail to the gorge is an interesting hike (not exactly a leisurely walk in the park!). I would stay here again if I come back to...

Ieri, ultimo giorno della mia vacanza in Grindelwald, ho cenato qui. Ho mangiato e bevuto divinamente. Anche mia moglie era contentissima. A differenza degli altri ristoranti di Grindelwald, orientati al puro e semplice guadagno, qui si guarda alla qualità e al gusto. Il mio piatto era una entrecote di cavallo medium con pommes frites e una salsa all'aglio fatta in casa superlativa. Da bere ho potuto gustare una birra chiara Rugenbräu e poi una Rugenbräu speciale Naturtrübes Zwickelbier. Fantastica. Rugenbräu é una piccola fabbrica di birra a Interlaken. La maggioranza dei locali sono costretti a offrire la birra del monopolio Feldschlösschen" del gruppo danese Carlsberg. Come si dice qui una birra 0-8-15 (= da battaglia). Alla fine ho voluto provare una nuova bevanda della Rügenbräu "Twister" con bottiglia e bicchiere di forma speciale. Una bevanda anlcolica buona, fresca e dissetante. A differenza degli altri ristoranti in Grindelwald che ho potuto testare, qui ho ricevuto il coltello da carne (affilato).

Gestern war es meinen letzten Ferientag in Grindelwald. Ich habe hier meine Abendessen gekostet. Ich habe göttlich gegessen; meine Frau war auch sehr zufrieden. Anders als die anderen grlndelwalder Restaurants die füers abzocken orientiert sind, hier wird auf Qualität und Geschmack geschaut. Mein Gerich war ein Pferde Entrecote mit Pommes und hausgemanchte göttliche Knoblauchsouce. Zum Trinken konnte ich ein helles Rugenbräu kosten. Später wollte ich noch das speziales Bier *Naturtrübes Zwickelbier" von Rugenbräu. Fantastica. Rugenbräu ist eine kleine Bräuerei in Interlaken. Die meisten Restaurants sind gezwungen das Bier vom Monopolist Feldschlösschen zu bieten. Wie man hier sagt, ein 0-8-15 Bier. Zum Scluss wollte ich noch das neue Getränk von Rügenbräu "Twister" probieren. Ein frisches und durstlöschendes Getränk. In Gegenteil von anderen Restaurants die ich in Grindelwald testen konnte, bekam ich für den Fleschgericht ein (scharfes)...

Fabulously renovated guest house (under new management) with only 5 rooms. Cosy, modern room with very comfortable bed and great shower! Great value for money in the area. (Much better than staying in a big place in town.) Right next to the famous Glacier Canyon and at the start of many super hikes. Easy 35 min walk or 6 min bus ride or CHF 15 Taxi from Grindelwald train station.

The Rösti with egg and bacon was one of the best ever! The menu is short but varied with good veggie options. Well priced and locally sourced. The new management is young, enthusiastic and on the ball! Thank you Andrea for a true Berner welcome and real countryside...
