Krone Sihlbrugg — Restaurant in Horgen

Very disappointing second visit to the restaurant. My husband and I went to celebrate his birthday and just felt that it was a let down. The seating was by the chimne which was not horrible just not very comfortable. I order the 4 (100sfr) course surprise menu hoping to try a variety of flavors and tastes and preparations that are not very common in other restaurants. My first dish was okay, had a few interesting flavors, something like a duck terrine - nothing memorable, I think sweet potato with something. Fine enough. Then I had a soup that was I believe asian in flavor. I think I kept tasting lemongrass. It had some kind of a muscle, grilled shrimp and some other fish that looked like a piece of meat from a lobster claw but did not taste like it. It was fine, but again nothing great. My main dish was reh/wild with the typical Swiss sides; red cabbage, chestnuts, pear with preisel berry, brussel sprouts and I am not sure what else. I expected something more original and creative and if I did want this very typical Swiss meal I would have ordered it from the menu (this is actually what my husband wanted but you had to order it for two persons). While it tasted fine enough, it felt like an afterthought. Chef had no time to prepare a surprise dish and just served me what half the restaurant was eating that night. Also, the taste left on my palate from the soup did not fit at all to the main dish. Not cohesive at all. Dessert was fine. I think a homemade ice cream that was very good, but the rest again not incredibly memorable. I think it had a panna cotta, but it was not as smooth and jiggily as I like it.

In addition, to all of that. My husbands first plate of his main dish was served when I had my soup dish; that was fine. Then he was served his second plate of his main dish, while I had nothing to eat at all for quite a long time. So he was eating the rest of his meal while I was waiting for mine. Finally, mine came after he finished his entire entree. Additionally, his entree was disappointing as well. He had Hirsh in a dark sauce and spaetzlie. One meal he really enjoys, but said that it was not so great. The meat was on the tougher side. Also not a color to be seen! Just brown and beige. No vegetable or fruit (pear with preisel berry) to bring color to the plate. Just meat and spaetzlie.

Sent the following e-Mail (German) after the stay which is now a half year back, no reaction at all: Möchte Ihnen kurz die Möglichkeit geben, zu unserer schlechten Erfahrung in Ihrem Hause zu reagieren: • Einchecken o Nach Ankunft wird uns mitgeteilt, dass das gebuchte Zimmer nicht verfügbar sei, wir ein kostenloses Upgrade erhalten (Ad Astra) o Absichtlich ein Zimmer OHNE Wasserbett gebucht o Absichtlich das grössere Whirlpool gebucht o Aussage «Take it or leave it”, kam sehr unfreundlich rüber • Essen im Restaurant o Kein Hinweis dass es sich gem. Angebot um ein «Fisch-Restaurant» handelt o Toter Fisch wird auf Tablar an den Tisch gebracht an dem zwei Personen sitzen die kein Seafood essen um die Empfehlung zu nennen o Vorspeise wird ungefragt gebracht, wieder Fisch o Bestelltes Essen kommt nach einer gefühlten Stunde o Essen ist durchschnittlich: Cordon Bleu schmeckt als wär’s ein Fertig-Produkt, Rösti ist versalzen (Ersatz angeboten aber aufgrund der «Lieferzeit» dankend abgelehnt) o Dessert wird offeriert wegem Zimmer & Essen, nehmen an. Dann wird aber vorwurfsvoll durch die Gänge gerufen weil Personal nicht zusammen kommuniziert (Dessert auf Zimmer) o Frühstück für den Morgen dankend abgelehnt aufgrund bisheriger Erfahrung o Licht in der Männertoilete schaltet paar Sekunden nachdem man sich gesetzt hat aus, kein Schalter / Bewegungssensor • Relaxen im Whirlpool o Whirlpool sehr unglücklich & unpraktisch positioniert, Gefahr dass man reinrutscht und sich verletzt, Stuhl der daneben steht kann mit einem Bein reinfallen o Spinnennetze und Spinnen haben es sich im Whirlpool gemütlich gemacht o Bedienung ohne (gefundene?) Instruktionen o Man setzt sich rein und startet die Düsen: DRECK, Staub & Blätter kommen aus den Düsen, Gestank nach Erde / kompostiertem Material (Bild im Anhang am nächsten morgen) • Schlafen o Wasserbett hat scheinbar zu wenig Wasser drin o Wasserbett ohne Kammer dazwischen bedeutet bei zwei ungleich schweren Menschen dass keiner richtig schlafen kann • Auschecken o «Guten morgen, gut geschlafen?» - «Nein» - «Ok, ich hole das Zahlterminal» o 395.- für diese komplette Erfahrung

In 2010 we stayed in Hotel Krone and we experienced a special time which stayed in our memories over the years. Now, 5 years later, after our holiday in Italy we decided to pay hotel Krone another visit and we had a great stay. From a sublime (star!) dinner to a great room with whirlpool bath/ free wifi and relaxing music in our room, our evening was wonderfull. In the morning we were treated to a great breakfast. The owners are warm and welcoming and the staff very friendly and helpfull. The hotel breathes a warm atmosphere. I am sure we will find our way to Hotel Krone once again in the next...
