Restaurant Orologio, where time slows down and you don’t even know it - I was there for almost 2 hours but it didn’t feel like it. So far, this is the best meal that I have had in the last 8 months in Switzerland or in Italy.
The Food: The chef is utilizing salt, fat, acid, and heat to make excellent and balanced dishes. The portions are also just right, you won’t leave hungry.
The Oeuf Parfait hit the right notes of richness, saltiness, and acid - egg cooked perfectly. The joues de boeuf was tender and full of beef flavor, the vegetables were cooked just right, and everything was well seasoned - the sauce that accompanies the dish was excellent, enough acid to cut thru the beef fat and giving a hint of horseradish. The dessert was okay - I felt like it was not unified. The lychee ice cream was delicious, the chocolate spring rolls decadent, and the salted butter caramel flavorful - it didn’t feel like they belonged together and I didn’t taste and curry oil. I think it would have been better had the chocolate contained cardamom and the caramel replaced with a mango or passion fruit puree.
The wine was also superb - offering selections from Switzerland, France, Italy, and Spain. You are offered a small bowl of homemade chips with your aperitif.
The Service: Extremely attentive, helpful, and welcoming. I feel like the gentleman that waited on me earned his pay.
The Atmosphere: Modern and minimalist with touches of watchmaking...
