A Memorable Experience at Osteria Funicolare Brè: Professionalism and Kindness Make All the Difference Our recent visit to Osteria Funicolare Brè was a truly positive experience, made exceptional not only by the charming location and excellent cuisine, but above all by the professionalism and dedication of Mr. Luigi. Unfortunately, there was a small issue with one of the dishes. However, with his kindness, disarming smile, and genuine interest in our feedback, Luigi handled the problem with exemplary calm and competence, unlike other places in Lugano. An open dialogue and his willingness were all it took to immediately find a solution that fully satisfied us, by him even creating an excellent revisited Gin & Tonic (the 20 CHF for the cocktail were happily spent). Luigi perfectly embodied the idea that sometimes, to remedy a small inconvenience, you don't need grand gestures, but simply listening, empathy, and clear communication. My husband and I took the funicular up to Monte Brè (a fun little ride in itself) and stopped at Osteria Funicolare for a quick drink before heading down towards Gandria. The Osteria is a lovely spot with a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a pause before a hike.

Be aware that the walk down is beautiful but steeper and narrower than expected – it took us about 1.5–2 hours to reach Gandria. The effort was worth it though: Gandria is the most charming little fishing village, and we even found a quiet cove to swim in the lake before catching a boat taxi back to Lugano. Conveniently located near the funicolare’s stations and with an amazing view. The food options are rather limited. We wanted to order the lasagne but when we arrived they have run out so we opted for the gnocchi with bolognese sauce. The gnocchi had almost no minced meet and the red sauce wasn’t tasty as well, luckily there was enough parmesan cheese which brought the whole meal to a satisfactory state.
