the restaurant
s unique experience works best only if you do some trecking ideally starting from uetlinger station. The restaurant has amazing an ambiance. The Christmas decorations were really nice, the personnel very polite and the food... the food was otherworldly. It
s the cheese fondue, the most swiss dish one can serve, that made worth the trecking effort. the cheese was creamy, tasty and seazoned. usually i am picky with cheese, but my favorite ones are those that are eirther rich in flavor or that stretch long enough to form what i like to call "strings of cheese". the fondue was both. A one way ticket to flavor town with stops for each bite. But beware, stop eating 2 days prior to the fondue, as even a single person portion can be very consistent, especially in combination with bread and pototatoes. I for one couldn't finish. The fondue goes well with a white wine or mulled wine (depending on the season) Speaking of which, great selection of whine they have! 32 swiss francs for the fondue 6.7 swiss francs for muled wine Make sure you pick a seat closest to the window as you will have an astounding panorama view of Zurich. At the moment of writting this review, the EU ceritificate is required accompanied by an ID. Tip: with the Swiss Rail Pass you get a 1+1 coupon for the fondue.Later edit: for summer I can only recoomend the Swiss Rösti( the dish with the Swiss flag in the attached photos), which comes in SUPER HOT, take care not to burn your tongue. The rest of the food felt bland, commercial and the beer selection was reduced and a bit expensive for the rather ordinary taste. The tisues were super noce and didn't have the heart to use them so I kept them...
Read moreWe enjoyed a sunny Saturday afternoon hike in early autumn 2025 from the Uetliberg to Felsenegg. We decided spontaneously to have an early dinner at Restaurant Felsenegg, as the terrace was still bathed in sunshine. The view was truly stunning, making for a wonderful setting.
Service was attentive, friendly, discreet, and efficient. Unfortunately, the food did not quite meet our expectations, nor did it match the advertised ones. The perch fillet with French fries was convenience food (frozen and deep-fried). Also, it was not possible to exchange the fries for vegetables, as the waiter explained that vegetables are generally not available.
The beef salad was served on a flat plate with three outer lettuce leaves, two baby corn cobs, and finely chopped pickles. The sauce was very watery and collected at the bottom of the plate. Mixing the dressing with the salad on the flat plate is rather impractical, as it easily splatters and risks staining clothes. The aromatic vinaigrette and fresh herbs described on the menu were missing. While the portion of beef was generous, the quality was uncompromising; it was far from tender and lacked flavor. Also, it was cut coarsely instead of “tender and finely sliced” as advertised.
For the two dishes, 2 dl of Sauser, and a non-alcoholic cider, we paid CHF 85. Considering the overall quality, we found the value for money very disappointing.
That said, the terrace and its spectacular view are absolutely worth a visit. That, unfortunately, cannot be said about the food. For this reason, we would not recommend dining at...
Read moreIt was a lightly misty Sunday morning in late June 1960. I left my pension, borrowing the umbrella of the owner's deceased husband. I took the funicular railway to its upper end and began my solitary hike along the mountain peak trail to Felsenegg Horst. Along the way I passed hundreds of snails also out for a Sunday hike. Having just flown in from Athens, after spending eight hours on the Acropolis I committed to memory the Apostle Paul's address to the men of Athens while walking. The mistress of the pension had told me of the excellent food awaiting me at Felsenegg Horst. I was not disappointed, and enjoyed my schnitzel with all the trappings and enjoyed the spectacular view. After taking a few pictures and leaving a US Two dollar bill as a tip, I took the gondola down to Adliswil ...
