We had lunch here on the 4th of March as our last day. We have eaten at numerous restaurants in the alps, some of the best are Le Panoramic, Zum See, La Peau De vache, Chez Vrony, Chez Dany.
Le Bistro (old cuckoos nest) was a massive disappointment and this is why...
When we arrived we sat down than waited 20 minutes for still and sparking water for the table and at 10 CHF that is not acceptable. Finally recieved a couple of magnums of rose which went down well. I had a salad to start and it was nothing special but dressing was so flavoursome. I had the fish dish as I am celiac and pescatarian so the menu is very limiting. The sea bream was really nice, but not filling enough and they have no carbs on the menu like chips/potatoes to accompany (and I can't eat bread to fill me up considering we ski for 4 hours and had an appetite). 2 people on our table had the corn fed chicken breast which was undercooked (or to our British taste and you have to be very sensitive with chicken) and sent back to the kitchen. I don't think I've dined anywhere when the dish comes back exactly the same way it went in to be examined by the chef who stuck by his cooking style. My mother had the only vegetarian dish and it was awful and tasteless and probably not nutritional at all, tasted like yellow baby food with a smoked finish (see picture). Overall the food was super disappointing and I think the winter menu Le Bistro has is so below average considering the view and location, i'd prefer to spend 20 CHF on the nachos at LUMI and bask in the sun than dine here again. We even sat outside after and had a bottle of red and a bottle of water, nothing was offered off the bill or even a genepi, just coffees on the house.
In terms of service our waitress was lovely and accommodating plus had a bit on banter with us, she tried the best she could considering she was also looking after a table of 10 men next to us plus another few tables on her own. She seemed to get no support from her colleagues or a manager.
I would eat elsewhere if you've read the above and save your time and money. Sadly the on mountain restaurant offering in Verbier is very average (chez dany and carrefour are better) compared to other resorts like Val...
Read more6 of us ate at Le Bistrot on 4th March for our last day of skiing and were looking forward to a really lovely lunch. The restaurant was poorly staffed and we felt very sorry for the one waitress who seemed to be serving all the tables, considering this was the case she tried her best. Le Bistro prices are high and as such one would expect a first class experience and amazing food - and a greater ratio of staff to guest. The menu was small and offered a fish, vegetarian and a few meat options however it was overly complicated and other than the beef - which looked good but was horrendously expensive - the dishes were overly fussy and far too rich with no thought of complimentary textures. When we alerted the waitress to the fact that we thought the chicken was slightly under cooked in the middle she took the dish back to the kitchen and then returned the dish to us saying it was fine - I don’t think I have ever eaten anywhere where a returned dish has been bought back to the table - no doubt after the chef had prodded it ! The vegetarian dish of pumpkin resembled baby food and had a horrible over smoked flavour. Again this was pointed out to the waitress but no alternative offered. At the end of the meal we were offered a free coffee which we declined, but the bill remained unchanged despite complaining about 2 of the dishes which were not eaten. Le Bristo did not deliver on so many fronts and they clearly need a head of house to manage the restaurant. The food was disappointing, under cooked (in our opinion) over priced and the most expensive on the mountain and truly the worse. I would spend your money elsewhere. I couldn’t find the restaurant on trip advisor and maybe there is a...
Read moreRather unfriendly welcome for a new restaurant. We wanted to get some drinks outside of peak hours but they don’t do a “lemonade service”… hope the staff learns a bit more how to build a better customer experience. We loved L’Olympique before and the Cuckoos Nest was alright, but this seems like a soulless overpriced restaurant.
Noting the restaurants response to the other review below (Richard H), seems they don’t care anyway and seem to be implying “shut up and go to self service…” not a great response.
I won’t be going again this season as there are other great places in Verbier. Hope this feedback can be used to...
