Went for dinner right after opening on Saturday night. Was able to get seated without a reservation. Easy enough to walk to/from Hsinchu station along the Hsinchu moat.
There's a QR code at each table from online ordering system. Tried the PATO, duck tacos, The ADOBO pork tacos, and the LENGUA beef tongue tacos. The tacos are small street style tacos. Each order is two tacos. Big American stomach and four tacos was enough for a solid meal but I went for the LENGUA cuz I'm not in Hsinchu often and I have honestly been waiting a couple years to eat this place and don't know when I'll be near again soon. 6 tacos left me stuffed but able to pleasurably walk the Hsinchu moat back to train station. They weren't too busy when I got in there so my food came out pretty quick, but I could see how if the place was packed the food might not come out so fast. Make a reservation if you are not on island time. You can keep ordering more food with the online system so keep that in mind If you want to order one thing to get started, and then you can keep ordering more things while you are waiting or eating. It is on the pricey side but I think it's worth it. You'd pay less in Mexico but you pay just as much or more in LA.
The online system did show a 5% surcharge but when you pay with cash at the counter that 5% surcharge is not in the bill. There was no service fee when I paid with cash.
Be sure to squeeze All the lime juice that they give you on your tacos.
I wish they served margaritas or made use if their patio. Owners, please put a hand washing sink out on your front porch! You have one bathroom and serve finger food! I want to wash my hands before and after...
Read moreInteresting food with bright flavors combined in innovative ways. There are some days where you want safe, bland comfort food and other days when you want an adventure with new flavors that explode in the mouth. El mundo is minimalist, industrial styled restaurant that’s perfect for your more adventurous days. We had the esquites (nice -sweetcorn salad), followed by four types of tacos. The duck (wow -salty rich duck, avocado, and tangy pickles), pork (great -slow cooked pork balanced with sweet pineapple, Baka fish (v nice -fried fish with citrus and pickles), chicken with chocolate (special, but didn’t love this combination). The portions are not that large, but the flavours are intense. Be aware spicy is really spicy so this is food that’s perfectly balanced by a couple of beers (they have a range). I strongly recommend this restaurant because it really is a unique...
Read moreI almost never review places, but El Mundo is amazing, by far the best street tacos in Taiwan. As a native southern Californian and a resident of Taipei for the last decade, I’ve been searching for good, affordable Mexican food since I got to Taiwan and El Mundo is the only place I can say that has ever really satisfied my craving.
Street tacos come two per order and are super affordable. Ingredients are all fresh. Corn tortillas are handmade by the owner. The flavors may not be super “authentic” but they are delicious and that’s what matters. I really like the spicy chicken tacos and oxtail tacos.
Owner is super nice and great at what he does, even though he’s never been to Mexico.
Please, go support this restaurant. I wish they were in Taipei. I’d be there...
