I had great expectations about this restaurant. It was the cuisine of Chiang Kai-shek, in the end.. But instead: what a disappointment! The food has no spark at all: it is boring, too sweet, too starchy, my mouth got so asleep that I wasn't able to eat any more. The special duck, so famous in the descriptions, had almost no flavor: the rice inside, bland, the skin with no flavor or texture. The pork ribs might have been good.. Might. Because they were covered by a thick jam, which again, numbed my mouth. So, was it really tradition of 30 years and more ago, or this is a Chef who cannot renew himself??!! Because such meal, in the end, was a total killer never to be repeated: too sweet, too starchy, too numb, without any contrast, without particular textures that can intrigue the palate, without zing, without freshness, heavy, old fashioned in the wrong way, and fundamentally very tiring. The complementary plum juice, sweet that too, add sweetness to sugar and to starch, and does not enlighten the whole experience. A lemon sorbet, very sour, would have revived the senses and saved the day. But no... we didn't get that. Even an espresso coffee would have worked. But, again, no. So, in conclusion, do yourself a favor, and skip this restaurant: you won't miss any tradition or good food, because that...
Read moreExquisite Chinese cuisine in a posh setting. We enjoyed every dish, especially the Dongpo Rou, Lamb Casserole, LionHead (meatball) soup, and the Sweet and Sour Fish.
If you’re staying at the nearby Leofull resort, it’s definitely worth driving out here for a meal, as it’s just 5-10mins away.
Service wise - very quick and eager. Though we thought it was odd they fitted us 14 pax into a small round table when there were many larger empty tables around.
Last order 6.30pm as the restaurant closes at 8pm.
Other than having to squeeze in that smaller table, it was an overall great experience dining here and we will return...
Read moreSome of the dishes were the best I had in Taipei area, such as it’s cold dishes and the soup. The honey braised pork was excellent. Other entries were okay but not really up to the same level as it’s appetizers (cold dishes). The duck with sweet rice was creative but was just okay. The crab rice was below average. The steam grouper was over cooked. The steak was actually pretty good. The veggie dishes lacked flavor. The fruit plate was in the fridge too long. The two desserts we had were below average as well. Clearly, they had different chefs preparing the hot dishes and the cold dishes. It was like...
