Mr Balagov Ukrainian Café — Restaurant in Yilan City

This super lovely place is a hidden gem in Yilan. I fell in love with it even before trying the food, thanks to its cute and cozy vibe, the Ukrainian items displayed at the entrance, and all the decorations that made me feel like I was having lunch in a Ukrainian home.

As for the food, it tastes fantastic. I ordered the set, which made more sense than ordering individual dishes. The borscht soup was warm and comforting on a cold winter day, and the meatballs with tomato sauce were perfect. The grilled pork completed the meal and filled me up. Having this with Turkish coffee… my day started off with energy and warmth.

This place really impressed me with its Ukrainian charm, even though I’ve never been to Ukraine. The cozy atmosphere and the warm hospitality of the staff and the cook make me want to visit...

I traveled to Yilan for 2 hours just to try this resteraunt and I was not disappointed! The food was delicious, I ordered the shashlik and the meat was perfect. Every bite delivered amazing flavor and texture, exceeding my expectations and satisfying me greatly. The kvas was quite interesting I’ve had the commercial bottled ones but this one had quite a different flavor it seemed more natural, and was very nice on this hot day and paired well with the meat. The borstch was also great, it was 35 ntd to add sour cream and bread which I think is a necessity, it had some garlic flavor which I wasn’t used to but was very happy overall. This place has a beautiful entrance. Thw whole vibe of itself is special. Then you have here two amazing people who are in charge of it. An owner from Ukraine and his wife. Most of my time in Taiwan when I see all these international restaurants, especially European ones I'm disappointed just by the look of the food, then you add smell and taste and the overpriced price and tou get big disappointment.
