Memorial Hall of Founding of Yilan Administration — Attraction in Yilan City

This restored Japanese-era house turned memorial hall and its garden full of old and massive fern covered camphor trees is a pleasure to visit. There's little information in languages other than Chinese (though the English pamphlet provided is appreciated!) however it's still lovely to wander through the house and garden. I especially loved the cool air and smell of cedar (or similar) that envelopes you as you slide open...

Providing a full elaboration of Taiwanese history from the Ching dynasty to Japanese colony I must say this is my favorite place in Taiwan to visit.
