First impressions count: and I was very touched by the warm welcome I got from Ebenezer at 2:00 in the morning!
I was exhausted after a day and a half of travel delays but knew I would not sleep. I had an early start (so asked if I could eat breakfast BEFORE I went to bed!) Nothing seemed to phase him and I went to bed at 3:00, happy!
I was in Arusha to attend KiliFair. As the days passed, I got to know many of the staff: ever-smiling Gladys, Innocent, excellent chef Machine, to name a few. Owners Dr Charles and wife Emmy were extremely hospitable; Dixon gave me a great guided tour of the lodge farm garden (worth a visit - there's a lot more there than meets the eye).
Opened in 2017 the gardens have matured nicely. The distant view from the conference rooms, across the swimming pool, is fantastic. (It's worth climbing to the upper floor!)
I enjoyed the food, especially the thin, crispy chips served with king fish. The chef's salad was pretty as a picture and the sizzler dish was cooked and served very quickly.
I did find the town a bit cold in June and (management do plan to add blankets to the rooms as per visitor feedback). My only other complaint was about single-use plastic; I do wish all hotels would stop providing small throwaway plastic items (toiletries and water bottles).
Overall I slept and ate very well at Masailand and felt I was among friends. I look forward to my next visit. ASANTE SANA.

Read moreI stayed for a conference and travelled a lot in Africa, Latin America and Asia.
This was one of the best experiences I've had in ages.
Rooms are spacious, bright and clean. And quiet, because the hotel is outside of the city center.
The staff went the literal extra mile with just about anything. We didn't even have to name our room numbers, they memorized even that.
The food at the hotel was great, better than at the conference venue.
Wheelchair accessible! You don't find that too often, and that deserves recognition.
The AC in one of our rooms was slowly getting damaged (high pitch noise level) and the hotel immediately moved us to a better room although I was not "demanding" it.
Outstanding management and staff, I have to say it.
Sure, breakfast could be more options (but it's until 10:30) and it is a bit out of town (which means it's quiet), so I really have nothing to criticize at all.
5/5 stars, and I...
Read moreWe decided to do a Saturday visit to the lodge for an afternoon of good meals and a swim for the kids..but were directed to another one outside the main lodge..Though gardens were spacious and guess more of an events set up, the pools didn't have water and were getting filled and not clean. Looks more of a garden for events than a play and swim area for a family. The kids pool too was abit deep and pools not designed to be user friendly, no steps leading to the pool in both pools and access is a bit hard and not sure how kids can get in and out of it. Ended up walking away. Main lodge is beautiful and lush from the entrance in, too bad we couldn't...
