Rudy's Farm — Restaurant in Dar es-Salaam

I visited Ruby’s Farm over a week ago with my wife and our two young children (ages 2 and 5) after relatives recommended it as one of the best places for kitimoto.

The place was very busy in the evening, and the main area was full of heavy BBQ smoke. We asked to be seated away from the smoke and were placed under a tree at the edge of the car park. At first, the natural light was just enough, but once the sun set, there was no lighting provided at our table. We ended up sitting completely in the dark and had to use my phone’s camera light so we could see. When my wife politely asked the waiter if they could switch on the nearby lights, the waiter was shockingly rude and told her to stop complaining. This was very disappointing, especially with small children present—it was a very reasonable request.

The service overall was extremely slow, both in being attended to and in getting our food. That said, once the food arrived, it was absolutely delicious, well worth the wait in terms of taste and quality.

In summary:

Food: Excellent, highly recommended.

Atmosphere: Very smoky, uncomfortable seating, and no proper lighting for guests seated outside at the edge of the car park.

Service: Extremely slow, and unfortunately rude at times.

If Ruby’s Farm could improve their service and provide proper lighting for outdoor seating areas, it would make a huge difference, because the food itself...

This was recommended to us by family who live in the area but unfortunately we were disappointed. While the food was OK our experience was spoiled by the level of service. We had asked how long the food would take and were told 30mins but in reality it took 1 hour and forty five minutes to serve us 3 dishes. It was not particularly busy either and the staff seemed to be uninterested in their jobs, preferring to chat amongst themselves or watch TV. Many parking spaces available. Totally loved how spacious the place is, the sitting places are far apart, under trees making it cool and good on a hot day. The service is good though sometimes the waiter was a bit overloaded. Food was ordered approximately 30 minutes before arriving so we didn’t have to wait. I loved the sauce, and most especially the meat. The music is not very loud and one can stay far away from the speakers and enjoy a meaningful conversation without talking at the top of their voice.
