UPSTAIRS Restaurant & Lounge Bar — Restaurant in Unguja

A group of us went last night to this restaurant - new in our area. We were curious to see if it could be a place we'd like to regularly go for dinners or at other times... Happy to report that our experience was excellent - very friendly and efficient service, a warm welcome and most importantly great food. I always enjoy it when there's a small snack to greet you while you wait for your main meal! We had a delicious bread stick and soft cheese appetiser, the breads were all made on site and this was a great accompaniment to our drinks while we ordered the main course. I went with Catch of the Day, which you can have grilled, fried or baked - I had grouper, which had been marinaded and was served with a delicious sauce - I had also chosen the grilled veg - which was perfect: fresh and just charred lightly on the edges, and the perfect side to the fish. You can also choose rice or chips but I'd definitely recommend the vegetables - really good! My son tells me that the pizza is excellent and their beef was perfectly cooked - in fact the whole table was very impressed and we were all extremely pleased with our meals! We were a table of 8. Apart from the food the place is lovely - the restaurant overlooking the pool and beautiful gardens, and the decor was gorgeous too! I think a lunch during the day is my next plan - and I can try something else from the extensive menu! Congratulations to the team - we are really happy to have such a great addition to our nearby restaurants, and I'm sure that anyone staying in the beautiful hotel will be delighted with the restaurant...

We had a great experience when we visited Zanzibar. Out of our 8 nights there we ate there on 6 of the nights. The staff were really friendly compared to the other places we visited, and special mention to Johari who always kept a genuine smile and was always happy and eager to help. The food was great (although the menu can do with a little bit more choice), and the atmosphere was great too.

The only criticism would be the pricing, after visiting a few places, we realised that the place is a little bit more expensive compared to most places we went to, but I would still 100%...

My wife and I chose Zanzibar for our honeymoon and we were lucky because this restaurant was next to our house and served very delicious dishes. We enjoyed very much the delicious food, especially my wife who is now addicted to their garlic soup. The restaurant is luxurious and beautiful, and they make sure the place is clean. My wife and I recommend this restaurant as it has a good reception, beautiful view and delicious food. As for the manager, he is a very nice...
