Ton Nam Restaurant — Restaurant in Bang Pa-in Subdistrict Municipality

English name for this restaurant is Ton Nam Riverview. They are known for their fresh Giant River Prawns. My Thai speaking friend called ahead to reserve 4 of the large shrimps for us 2 days prior. I think the big ones (0.5 kg) have more shrimp butter/ tomalley in the head which we love! According to my friend if you don't call ahead you end up having to pick whatever is leftover at the restaurant, if any. The shrimp is grilled over charcoal. They are expensive at 1000 baht/ $30 USD EACH prawn. But man they were so good. I liked the seafood sauce. We ordered rice on the side. I took out all the shrimp butter and put that on the rice then picked out all the tail meat and and remaining meat in the body around the leg knucklesaand put on the rice, spooned the seafood sauce on that and went to town. It was not a pretty site but oh so good! We also ordered a fried blue fish, som tom/ papaya salad with chicken wings, and another fish with basil and peppercorns. Everything was great. Located at Ayutthaya where you can visit world's heritage in the morning and stop at this restaurant for a good lunchtime. I would recommend to drive your own vehicle as it's quite remote from public transportation.

I FOUND MAGGOTS IN MY FOOD!!! I was recommended this place by a close friend who’s a regular customer, so I was really excited to try it. We even drove all the way from Bangkok to Ayutthaya just for this Michelin-rated experience.

But to my shock, I found maggots (fly larvae) in the chilly sauce. We already dip and ate one piece of fish bowl that eat with chilli sauce. It completely ruined the meal and the experience. I didn’t take a photo because I was too shocked at the time, but it was very clear and unmistakable.
