Sriwara Bistro & Cafe Phuket — Restaurant in Chalong

When they served my dish I was wondering if I missed something when reading through the pictured menu card. Did I order a starter ? The portion was way below expectation. Before starting to eat I took a picture from the served dish, so after finishing my dish I asked the menu card once more. And when comparing with the picture in the menu card the one served is clearly smaller. There’s was quite some sauce which came with the dish. Probably also for filling. The taste was really decent to say, but I felt still hungry after finishing my dish. Some other things I noted. There’s a 7% service charge add on onto the listed prices. That’s rather unusual in Thai restaurants, but since it is clearly visible nothing against it. But that made the price for my dish 419 THB. Knowing the prices in other Thai restaurants and leaving this establishment with still a hungry feeling it is in my view definitely overpriced. The staff doesn’t keep an eye on each table’s situation. So I had to wave my hand for both ordering as well as when asking for paying. I saw one of the staff behind the bar drinking from the bottle, and then seemingly placing it back in the cooling. I don’t know if this might be his own personal bottle, but surely giving the wrong impression and in the Covid-19 situation this is definitely a no go. The interior is nice, but the background music is simply boring. This was the second time I went there and I can remember last time I heard the same music. During my recent visit to Phuket Chalong, I had the pleasure of dining at the Sriwara Bistro & Café, and it was an experience I highly recommend. The highlight of my meal was the salmon burger, which came with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, accompanied by a side of crispy french fries, tartar sauce, and ketchup. The flavors were perfectly balanced, creating a memorable burger experience.

I also indulged in the crab rice, tailored to my preference without vegetables. The dish was cooked to perfection, with the crab flavor shining through in every bite. My wife opted for the shrimp fried rice with vegetables, and she was equally impressed, savoring every morsel of her dish.

But the star of the show was their best seller - the northern Thai curry noodles with pork belly. This dish was a revelation, combining rich, bold flavors in a way that delighted my palate. The pork belly was tender and flavorful, perfectly complementing the spicy and aromatic curry noodles.

I ordered two glasses of wine at this restaurant, including a Shiraz that was clearly off. As an avid wine drinker, I knew it was undrinkable. I called a staff member and asked to switch to another wine. He said he’d take care of it but came back after a while asking what it was like. I told him it tasted very off like a damp cloth or that seemed like it had been opened for too long, and asked him to taste it. He returned, saying he still had to charge for it and asked if I still wanted it. I refused, explaining again it was undrinkable. He suggested it was just cold and I should wait for it to warm up. I don't mind paying for it, but at least taste the wine before dismissing my concerns.

Adding to the disappointment, the waiter simply confirmed our order by handing me her tablet, not even bothering to repeat it verbally.
