A reasonably authentic southern Thailand seafood experience in Chiang Mai. All that is missing is the sea view. We had a large variety of dishes. All were of excellent quality with the small exception of the crab in curry sauce. The crab was slightly ‘mushy,’ so maybe not so fresh. But the rest of the food more than made up for this. The fish was fresh and very well cooked. The prawns in all dishes from the Tam Yum Kung to the shrimp fried rice were really well cooked. I have seen reviews that say the food is too salty/msg, but I notice that most of these reviews are talking about chicken or steak dishes. So my question is, why order steak at a seafood restaurant? I have also seen reviews that say service is a bit slow. Maybe we were lucky but the dishes arrived in a reasonable time and in a decent sequence…. Not all at once but not too spread out. The dining room is basic, although there is outside seating if the weather is reasonable. Service and atmosphere would make a 4 star rating at best, but the food was so good that I bumped the overall rating to a 5. Note that I was the only farang at the place for our entire visit, so clearly the locals are keeping this place for themselves :). Also note that the menus are in Thai, so it helps to be a Thai speaker or at least having some experience in ordering Thai seafood dishes. They also have some great looking desserts, but we ate too much and were unable...
Read moreWe came here as was recommended on internet and read that it's voted one of the ten best restaurants among khun chiangmai.
We came at around 7pm and luckily there's sests available without booking. As observed other's food, the portions are much bigger than usual in chiangmai. Unfortunately we only have 2 persons but wanted to try many.
Owner was very friendly and came to recommend us food, we had 3 dishes, fried vermicelli, egg, stinky beans and pickle onion, this is very well cooked, a bit oily but can taste the smell of frying pan. Deep Fried Tubtim Fish with herbs, as seabass was sold out, the fish is huge, taste better than expected, most importantly it was fried to crisp but not dry. Grilled black pig porkloin, the texture is like cha siu, I'm from Hong Kong, that I this is the description I can find...the ends also have the taste of charcoal but dipped with their homemade spicy sauce will take your tastebuds to next level.
Don't missed the home made cakes in the fridge, only $85 bhat per piece. We ordered taro cake, it looks normal, without coloring, but taste very very good, sweetness is just right, fluffy sponge cake topped with sliced taro.
I also bought banofee to go, it was very well made, the time I write this review now already missed the cakes and want to come back...
Read moreOne of the best pu pad pong garee I've ever had, anywhere. Full of crab. Kor moo yang grilled to perfection and served with a smoky nam jim jaew. Tom yum goong with big, fresh shrimp. Even the coconut cake was delicious. Make a reservation, be prepared to order everything all at once, and come hungry, because the portions are large and the food is aroy mak mak. The 5 star rating is for the Chef. The food speaks for itself, and it's the reason this place is so popular. The atmosphere isn't great, the service needs some improvement, and finding a parking spot is always difficult, but after you take one bite, you...
