Jaem House restaurant — Restaurant in Chiang Rai Province

Amazing food! Came as a recommendation from the owner of the hotel opposite, where we were staying. It's also recommended in some books as well, and for good reason. We came expecting something quick and easy, but we ended up with some spectacular food! We ordered the stir fry chicken with cashews, as well as a Thai green curry. Two portions of rice too. We also ordered some drinks and everything came to 410 THB, which is incredible value, considering how tasty it all is. The local cat is heavily pregnant too so wanted tonnes of attention and this just added to the vibe. The staff were lovely too and the service was super quick. You can see the owner cooking the food from where you're sitting and all the ingredients are clearly fresh. The Thai green curry is enormous so please keep this in mind if you're not looking for a big meal, or at least have it without rice. If that's the only meal you want, then you might need 3 portions of rice to equate to the volume of the curry. Such a nice place and we're so thankful for the recommendations - we'll definitely be back again if...

“Jam” is like sweet fruit on your morning toast. Or, “Jem” a diamond on your finger. Or “Jaem” as Thai Language translates this wonderful woman’s name, is the owner of this restaurant and hotel. We arrived Chiang Khong in the afternoon on the Green bus from Chiang Mai. We hadn’t eaten since about 6am and across the road from our hotel, this convenient and friendly looking restaurant was charming us. Jam cooked our first meal for us that afternoon. Jam and her restaurant have became a place of friendship and wonderful food for us the last three days. We must have eaten at the least nine and perhaps as many as twelve different items cooked by our newest friend, since we have been in Chiang Khong. The prices are very reasonable and the meals have been delicious....

Took a four hour bus ride to stay on the Mekong River and realized the food options are limited. Luckily, our stay was just 450 ft from Jaem House because we would have missed a delicious meal. The food was perfectly seasoned, made on the spot by Jaem herself. She welcomed us with a smile and made sure we enjoyed our food. Not going to lie…. I will be back tomorrow. We ordered the cashew fried chicken, it had flavors of the tropics. Pine apple, cucumber, red yellow peppers, onions, cashews cooked perfectly in a sweet sour sauce. My only complaint is that I did not get a picture...
