Khao Soi Mae Pimpon — Restaurant in Chiang Rai Province

EDIT FOR THE VEGAN FRIENDS: ask the staff for a vegan menu, the owner responded that you have to specifically ask for the menu. We couldn't find any information for all the surrounding restaurants, including this one and it's nowhere visibly written. I actually would like to remove one start for the fact that it's so hidden, but the staff was very nice and the food was good.

Due to our vegan dietary restriction, we had a hard time finding food at the nearby restaurant. We talked to the staff and they served us a spontaneous creation which was not on the menu. It was both beautiful and delicious. It was similar to the stir fried chicken, but the chicken got replaced with loads of vegetables, nuts and a crunchy cracker made of corn flour. Served with an orchid!

If you're vegan and cannot find anything beside french fries, go there and ask...

Overall high 6/7 Khao Soi chicken: 6/7 Curry base is great, very flavourful. Good rice noodles under with good ratio of crispy bits on top. Chicken also falls apart without being dry.

Dry Khao Soi pork: 6/7 Same as soup Khao Soi, but the pork isn’t particularly interesting.

Panang curry: 4/7 Tasty, but less memorable. A solid choice.

Tom yum: 5/7 As someone who doesn’t like Tom yum at all, this is probably one of the best Tom yum soups I’ve ever had. Not too sour and overall very well balanced.

Absolutely the BEST Khao Soi I've ever had throughout northern Thailand. I had the Khao Soi Gai(Chicken) which was considered the classic and truly it blown my mind. The gravy was perfectly balanced between umami and a tinge of sweetness, noodles were tangy as expected and the chicken drumstick was so tender that the meat fell off the bones with a simple nudge.
