It was right across from our hotel so was an obvious choice when we saw that it had consistent Michelin recommendations for 4 years. this place serves hakka style noodles but with a local Phuket flair. Singaporeans will find the taste very familiar but the generous use of lard and pork scratchings gives the simple dishes a depth that has long been lost elsewhere where lard was shunned for 'health reasons'. We ordered the mee sapam , mee sapam mix, oyster fried with taro, oyster fried with vegetables and crispy egg roll.
Sadly we were not so impressed with the oyster dishes. Partly because the oysters were of the size of beans and could hardly be tasted. There were barely a handful in the oyster fried with taro(taro is very typical of hakka style food). The crispy egg roll is really good, crispy and not oily, but the oyster fried w vegetables it came with were totally bland. The dish was only saved by the fantastic chilli, but if you don't like chilli you can give this dish a miss. The mee sapam was good and spot on for authentic hokkien style noodles found elsewhere in south east Asia. Highly recommend the mix and added egg. The addition of these to the seafood makes the sauce have an additional depth .
There are a couple of grandmas hawking traditional Thai desserts/snacks just outside the air-conditioned area. Highly recommend the coconut based snacks and green cake. They also sold curry puffs but we...
Read moreHighly do not recommend if you want to try authentic Hokkien noodles. I waited over half an hour just to get my order, and then it came out, the order was wrong. I ordered Hokkien noodles with pork, but it came out as seafood. When they took it back to the kitchen, it literally took them 3 mins to get the order fixed, which meant that the pork was already cooked, they just took out the seafood and replaced it with pork. If someone is very allergic to seafood this can be very detrimental. Also, it came out very soggy and soupy, more like a noodle soup than fried noodles. The portion is also very small and they don’t serve you the red onions that you usually get to eat alongside the dish. I heard from acquaintances before that this place is not very legit, I don’t even know why I bothered trying. I live in Phuket and this noodle is just so disappointing, not sure why they even got Michelin star, not Phuketian worthy. You are way better off going to Mee Ton Po (หมี่ต้นโพ) or Ao Kea Noodles...

Not so much. Really not sure how this place retains a Michelin star.
The Mee Sapam was pretty uninspiring. Noodles weren't chewy and the broth had an overall meaty flavor but otherwise uninteresting. Shrimp and seafood was overcooked and rubbery, and the pork in the mixed Mee Sapam had no chew at all and tasted processed.
The fry platter was almost tasteless, other than the fried wontons which had great texture from the egg-heavy wrappers that got bubbly and crispy. The spring rolls were limp and lifeless inside - the sprouts and veggies were absolute mush.
To call these the best noodles on the island is crazy. They aren't the best noodles on this...
