While I was in Mae Hong Son last month for work, I had the opportunity to go with colleagues to Salween River Restaurant a few times for brunch. It was so good that I also ordered delivery to my guesthouse a few times also.
For a small tourist destination, options for delicious non-Thai food is limited. Listings for the restaurant say it serves Asian, Burmese, and Thai dishes. While that is true, it also serves some European dishes.
Surprisingly, all the different dishes that my colleagues and I had over several visits or meals were good. The portions are generous and beautifully presented. I particularly enjoyed some of Swiss and German options available.
The prices are reasonable, given how much food and the quality you get.
The only down side is that restaurant is located a bit far from the center of town and where most tourists or visitors are lodged, so you will need your own transport or get a tuk tuk. Or ask for their...
Read moreMy friend and I had dinner here as it's only a few minutes away from where we were staying. We got there by motorbikes on a semi-rough terrain. Lots of space to park bikes btw. Loved the whole ambiance of the place! It's situated in an open field and at night you can clearly see the stars shining in the sky. There's a bonfire with seats which gave a cozy camp feel. Fairy lights lined the perimeter which gave a nice charm. There was tons of seating options, and we chose the area where you can sit on the padded mats. We were greeted by hospitable servers, and a menu was provided in English. It was tough to communicate with the language barrier which affected the dishes my friend ordered (he asked for no spice, but everything was spicy). Good portions, nice presentations, but overall food was ok. It would be helpful if servers can clarify first if they're unsure. Other than that, I'm very happy with the...
Read moreWe had an amazing evening at this restaurant! My partner and I decided to order nearly everything from the Burmese menu, and we were absolutely delighted. The food was incredible, with each dish bursting with unique flavours.
The standout for us was the green tea saladâsomething Iâd never tried before, and it was simply fantastic. The flavours were so distinct and memorable. We also loved their take on poppadoms, especially paired with the delicious salsa.
If youâre in a group, weâd highly recommend ordering a variety of dishes from the Burmese menu to truly experience everything it has to offer. Itâs worth noting that the restaurant also serves other cuisines and breakfast options, so thereâs something for everyone.
We had a great time and would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to try something a bit different...
