Has achieved legendary status with its long and colourful history of defying laws in relation to the legal production of commercialised homebrewing. The venue is plain fantastic – a rickety bar located right on the canal connecting with the Chao Phraya river around the island of Ko Kret. But here in lies the one downfall of Chit Beer……..it’s an absolute buggar to get to. Best to get your own way (taxi or own car) to Wat Klangkred on the ‘mainland’ and then catch a 4 min taxi ferry across to the bar (about 15 baht). The journey from anywhere Central in Bangkok to Wat Klangkred is likely to be at least 30 minutes so well worth making a day of it. Packed to the rafters in a Saturday with a very mixed crowd (mostly Thai). Beers are very very cheap for Thailand (say 150 baht for 400ml). 8 to 10 beers on tap at anyone time with half devoted to the house. The owner, Mr. Chit (or Khun Chit, P'Chit) is a Thai craft beer iconic. He is also recognized as a master of Thai craft beer (you may search his info on the internet).
The place is located in Koh Kret (Kret island, small island on the Chao Praya river) so you need to take a ferry, 5 mins from main land, costing only THB 2 or around USD 0.05 per trip.
Chit Beer opens only on weekends and the place can be super crowded from 3 pm onward. Sipping beer with sunset view is strongly recommended.
Ferry stops at 9 PM, but local boat taxi is available till midnight.
