So I've been waiting some days to write this review because I have mixed feelings. If you have done the fancy rooftop bars etc and wanna try something else I recommend this place, the house is fabulous and the interior is stunning.
We had the Northern Thai Tasting menu and one of us tried some dishes from the a la carte. I think there are way too many options for a fancy restaurant.
We were greeted in a nice way because they figured out super quickly who we were and showed us to the table.
We ordered some drinks, that took a while to get, but they were nice. I miss that they do not sell champagne by the glass.
The food is good, there is a lot of things I haven't tasted before which was a lot of fun to try. The waiter did a good job of describing the food and even the head chef/owner came and presented herself, which we all enjoyed. All of the food is presented in a superb way and the dishes are well thought of in which order they are served in etc. The only thing I missed is that I would enjoy even more "mouth explosions", dishes that dare to stand out and be more spicy, salty, sweet etc. Exactly like the Red Curry Ice Cream that we were served as a first dish. It was insane, in a good way!
Where the restaurant needs to step up is in the service, all of the staff members were sure nice, but for this kind of money, I expected to be treated better and more thought after. We were for example never asked if we wanted to order something to drink besides the drinks that we ordered on arrival. We had to ask for the wine menu and when they took the order they only took the order from one person. Not asking the others in my company if we wanted to have, say something like red wine to the meat. It was also hard to actually book a table since they wanted to have a deposit sent by bank transfer, not being able to do that via credit card...
Read moreWhat a treat to get such an intimate, personal one-on-one time with highly acclaimed Chef May Thongthong. We opted for the 10 course tasting menu and were seated with another couple at the bar counter with direct view of the open kitchen. May’s staff were incredibly kind and graceful. They looked like they were gliding through the kitchen. Chef May presented the dishes as they and gave a little back story for each dish. My personal favorite was the prawn that she paired with 3 different sauces to resemble the 3 most common prawn dishes in Thailand. So delicious!
You have to make reservations for the tasting menus ahead of time. Their link to sending their deposit wasn’t working for me so I emailed them and they were very responsive. They also communicate often via email to narrow down your menu and make some dishes personalized (like with the protein options). They also have a beautiful display case for cakes if you’re celebrating a special event.
Overall, it was an amazing experience. Not only was the food fantastic but the company and interaction with Chef May and her team, elevated our experience...
