I live in the Bo Fai area of Hua Hin and I really want to give Aroi Sushi Soi 6 high scores, but I am conflicted.
On the one hand, the Nigiri Sushi and Sushi Rolls are pretty good quality-wise and the presentation is attractive. Also, for the most part, the other Japanese food is good too. On a recent visit, the grilled fatty salmon was sold out due to its popularity. Also, the Enoki Tempura is really nice. I like that they offer two types of eel and the Ikura sushi is great. This restaurant has a good supply of avocados and they ripen the avocados by themselves for excellent flavor and texture. For the most part, and this being Thailand and not Japan, I can give these food items a solid '' 4 '' score.
On the other hand, the grilled saba fish (mackerel) that we ordered because the grilled salmon was sold out seemed to have a strange texture and taste; as if it had been frozen, thawed and frozen again. It didn't have an overly ''fishy'' smell, but it was a bit off. Also, the customer service at this restaurant is really ''hit or miss''. Sometimes the waitresses are friendly and engaged in quickly seating customers and taking the customers' orders. But at other times, the staff seem to be a bit stand-offish and almost rude. It is as if they make a point to ignore customers. The service is really inconsistent. I would rank the service overall as a 2 to 3 and I feel that I am being generous. I am not sure if the service level differs if the customer sits inside at the sushi bar, but the waitresses in the outside seating area need a customer service refresher course.
I have been coming to Aroi Sushi very infrequently since 2016. In fact, I had an older review on here, but it seems to be gone now. The ambiance/atmosphere strikes me as a bit ''pretentious''. Maybe it is my imagination, but this place seems to be trying to capture a ''Yuppie Sushi Bar'' vibe from the mid-1980s.
In conclusion, there are other sushi restaurants in Hua Hin, so feel free to compare. I like the Nigiri Sushi and Maki Sushi rolls here at Aroi Sushi Soi 6 in Bo Fai, but I dread interacting with the staff. I will probably continue to eat here about twice a year.
Note: I remembered to snap some photos on this visit and a...
Read moreThis place is almost perfect! And yes, it now my favorite sushi place in Hua Hin, when I want generous portions of fresh fish and large, inventive rolls, this is where you will find me. The restaurant is divided between in indoor, AC space that has a traditional sushi bar. Then there is an outdoor courtyard that is small and intimate with beautiful lighting and a hedge to separate it from the street. One of two things I did not like about this restaurant, while sitting in this courtyard, was the large and loud trucks that frequently rumbled by. The restaurant is very close to the street and the noise was deafening. The other thing I did not like, and it’s a minor complaint, is that sake was not available. I like my sake with my sushi, darn it! Not a deal breaker though. I...

We tried Aroi Sushi and loved the cozy, welcoming vibe 🌸🍶. Ordered the beef grill 🥩🔥, tuna poke bowl 🐟🥗, avocado salad 🥑, and of course, an icy cold Asahi beer 🍺—everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented 👌✨.
They did mix up part of our order 🤷♀️, but the delicious food and chilled atmosphere made up for it 💕. Perfect spot for a relaxed Japanese meal in Hua Hin! 🇯🇵🌊
