"A local tip that hit the spot—Chok Aree Seafood.”
I found my way to Chok Aree, a local seafood restaurant, thanks to a recommendation from our homestay host. And I have to say—it didn’t disappoint.
The seafood here is bold, authentic Thai-style, with flavors that really pack a punch. My wife, who’s not from Thailand, found the spice level a bit overwhelming—even though we asked for “mild.”
Especially the Southern-style sour curry with fish roe (แกงส้มไข่ปลาริวกิว)—it’s fiery, sour, and full of flavor. So, a heads-up for those not used to strong Thai spice: proceed with caution!
What surprised and impressed me most was the crab fried rice with curry flavor. It was my first time trying it, and honestly, it felt like a beautiful balance between curry and comfort food. A dish I’d happily come back for.
We also tried the sun-dried squid, which is a signature item here. While it was decent, I felt like it had room to be a bit more flavorful or tender.
If you come on a weekend lunch, expect a wait—but the vibe is casual and local. You can help yourself to things like ice or bottled beer while waiting. It’s that kind of place.
We came as a couple, and the total was around 800 baht—not bad at all for the quality and portions.

We order tiger prawns, big shrimps were served instead. We asked if they accidental served us wrong dish, they said these were tiger prawns. Ok, nevermind we took it.
Other dishes were crab with rice, steamed blue crabs, sun-dried squid, fried fish. The taste was ok.
After twelve hours from having lunch at this restaurant, me and my husband got so bad stomachache in the middle of the night. Both of us had severely food poisoning, with fever and non stop go to toilet all night long. We ended up in hospital.

Read moreFantastic selection of seafood cooked to perfection and delivered to your table in very good time even when they are busy. Prices reflect their mainly Thai customer base. No crazy tourist prices here. Set on the seafront 200 meters from the dead end road that confronts the river estuary, it is a quiet location with covered open air seating. A good selection of fans and sea breezes keep the temperature relatively comfortable. Highly recommended for authentic well cooked and reasonably priced Thai seafood. My second visit confirmed the...
