The Home Grain Cafe offers a varied selection of vegan, vegetarian and "normal" food and drinks.
We discovered this rather inconspicuous store on the side of the road on the way to Rawai. I only eat a vegan diet due to a food intolerance, so I was all the more thrilled that I could not only get vegan smoothies and shakes with vegan yogurt (which are super tasty and creamy) but also vegan roti at Home Grain.
On our first visit, we ordered a vegan roti, which was beautifully presented and one of the best I've tried. I also had the vegan breakfast platter with bread, tofu as a scrambled egg, mushrooms, spinach, baked beans and avocado as well as tempeh. This platter was super tasty and very large.
My husband had a grilled vegetable wrap with feta (vegetarian), but it was very small and not as satisfying.
The vegan pina colada smoothie was also delicious.
Next time we tried the vegan pancakes with fresh fruit, which were also very tasty and filling. Then a vegan massaman curry with roti and vegetables. The roti was great again, but the curry looked like reheated baby food (sauce with peas, corn, carrot) and a few spices and the vegetables didn't look freshly prepared either (unfortunately). My husband also ordered a cappuccino, which was okay but not one of the best.
The staff are very friendly and attentive and also cater to special requests. The advice is also caring and they are very interested in how it tasted.
However, as the vegan pancakes, shakes and the vegan breakfast platter were very good, I can only recommend Homegrain. I think it depends a little on...
Read moreWithout a doubt the best cafe we have been to in Thailand so far. I'm sure there are fancier places, but if you're after a relaxing and authentic cafe experience with great coffee and a range of excellent vegan, vegetarian and meat-based dishes, this is the place for you.
The coffee is good and they'll make it to your liking. The rest of their drinks menu is great with regular options such as Thai tea and milkshakes.
Food menu is split between breakfasts, vegan options, keto options and a pretty wicked lunch menu - check out the pulled beef quesadillas or the Asian chicken wrap - everything we've tried so far has been amazing.
Prices are reasonable. Perhaps a little more than you might pay at some places, but certainly less than you might pay at a resort or hotel. Coffee is 70 baht and most food is under 200 baht a dish.
Service is friendly and efficient. Coffee comes out quick, food takes a little longer but is worth the wait, and there is a range of pastry options that look very tasty if you're in a rush - see my picture attached.
There are some tables out front if you like a smoke with your coffee. Or, ya know, a coffee with your smoke ;)
All in all an amazing cafe that I wish I could put in my suitcase and take with me back...
Read moreMy husband and I came in for a quick cup of coffee and I was shocked to see an entire separate vegan food menu! Since I'm vegan I simply had to order something so I got the vegan sausage roll. It was unbelievably good. It came with the most delectable dipping sauce and it was piping hot. And the coffee was excellent too!
The place is immaculate and really lovely. I will happily pack up my laptop and spend mornings working there. The staff is incredibly friendly and the service was fantastic. Home Grain Breakfast and Bistro is such an asset to Rawai and I'm already pestering my husband to...
