⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Proper Chippy in Samut Prakan, Seriously!
As a Brit living in Thailand, spotting a fish and chip shop on my feed stopped me in my tracks. A proper chippy in Samut Prakan? Off I went on my motorbike in search of something rare.
I was first through the door. Being the only one in the restaurant can sometimes feel awkward, but not here. The staff were warm and welcoming from the moment I walked in. We had a few language hiccups (my fault—I’ve lived here eight years and still haven’t learnt Thai), but Google Translate and the team made the ordering process smooth and easy. One of the family even came out to chat and told me a bit about the owner.
Turns out the chef is Thai, not British, which did make me pause for a second. But then we got chatting. He speaks excellent English, studied in the UK, did his master’s at Greenwich, and even spent time in Glasgow—my hometown. That’s when I relaxed. This guy knows what a proper fish supper is.
I had three courses: crispy calamari to start, followed by a large seabass and chips, and a dessert. Two soft drinks too. Total bill: 650 baht.
And the food? Spot on. The seabass was flaky and fresh, the batter golden and crisp. It was everything I’d hoped for. As I ate, more Thai diners arrived and were clearly enjoying it too. The staff handled every table with genuine care and attention.
After a cancelled birthday the day before thanks to a bout of illness, this was the perfect pick-me-up. A feel-good meal, done right. And full credit to the owner, working hard in that baking kitchen to make sure everyone leaves happy.
You might think Samut Prakan is a bit far unless you live nearby. But trust me, it’s worth the trip. I’ll definitely be back.
Quality food. Great service. Proper chippy experience....
Read moreI happened to find this fish & chips place. They say they’ve been open just over a year. You can choose the type of fish. Today I tried halibut, which has the softest texture, and it was delicious—light and fluffy. The coating was a bit on the thick side for my taste; I personally prefer it thinner, but overall I was very satisfied. It’s also nice that they offer salads at a reasonable price. In addition, they have a small selection of craft beers as well. I sampled Carabao’s draft Weizen, but it wasn’t really to my liking, so I went for Arcobräu Moos from the fridge instead. It paired very well with the food. The restaurant is located in a quiet spot, and I was the only customer today, but honestly it deserves to be more well-known. The staff were kind and welcoming, and I felt comfortable. Parking is located just across the wall, and since it was raining, a staff member even came to meet me with an umbrella. I’d definitely like to come back next time to try another...

🧂 Must-Try Fish Batter The fish here is insanely good—crispy on the outside, light and flaky on the inside. The batter is thin, golden, and doesn’t overpower the fish at all. It’s one of the best I’ve had.
🐟 Unique Local Fish Options What makes Alray stand out is their rotating selection of fish, depending on what’s fresh that day. You might get to try something rare or seasonal—straight from the sea to your plate!
🍝 More Than Just Fish & Chips We also tried the seafood pasta—creamy, flavorful, and packed with shrimp. The chicken wings were sticky, sweet, and addictive, while the salad was fresh and balanced everything out.
🍽 Great Vibes, Cozy Spot The place is clean and welcoming, perfect for a casual lunch or relaxed dinner. Everything was plated nicely, and the portions were generous.
🌊 Definitely Worth the Trip If you’re near Samut Prakan—or even if you’re not—this place is worth making a detour for. A hidden gem that deserves way...
