We visited Tasspun bake shop and restaurant today. We have been here a few times and generally it has been OK, but it was on notice given a similar poor experience. This visit was disappointing on several levels.
First, orders were taken and the wait staff came back twice to inform us that the menu item (spaghetti Bolognase) and the second choice menu (pork replacing the beef) item were not available. BTW, the menu item spaghetti Bolognase was one of the reasons I visit this restaurant at least, but it is the second time it has not been available. The wait staff need to know what is not available on the menu, so that they are not embarrassed. The spaghetti cabanara was the 3rd choice. It was less than average at best. The accompanying Caesar salad had very fresh ingredients, but it was a fail based on the lack of an appropriate Caesar salad dressing and the cheese was not inspiring. Mayonnaise is not an adequate substitute for Caesar salad dressing. The cheese lacked any taste.
Second, my wife’s order was taken to a different table, who decided to keep the menu item, even though they didn’t order it. This was despite each table being clearly numbered. We had two wait staff come to apologise. Clearly, there was a breakdown in communication. I think it is poor form for another customer to accept a meal that they didn’t order, but that it is risk that the restaurant takes when the get the order delivery wrong. Eventually my wife’s menu came, but it was like my menu less than average. Her home made yogurt entree was however very good.
I blame the management here for the communication issues concerning the inaccurate menu and table numbering of ordered deliveries. These are the areas of service that can precipitate poor reviews, but good food would even have overcome this.
It is likely that the Tasspun has lost a couple of customers and others that we advise as well. Perhaps we will go back in a year or two and see if the restaurant is still there. I generally only evaluate restaurants on Trip Advisor, but this restaurant seems to use google. This is the first time I have given a 1 out of 5, but I would have given 3 to 3.5 out of 5 for previous visits. I tend to only write reviews when I have an excellent experience. If you just want a good cocoa frappe, then...
Read moreeye contact was made but nobody seated us when we arrived. okay, understandably it’s the first day of the New Year.
ordered Avocado with Poached egg. waited for fricking 30mins and guess what? the portion is MISERABLE, the salad has no dressing, the toast is NOT even toasted and the bread ain’t fresh. and it was a 30 min wait?!?!
a table of 4 (locals) arrived later than us, had someone seat them, had their hot food orders served one after another in a good time.
wow. Don’t believe the hype about good ambience. a good ambience doesn’t cut it if the food doesn’t meet the standard.
the attached photo isn’t meant to be aesthetic. it’s really here to show you true expectations.
one star.
edit: in response to the GM’s reply, if you believe what you serve is good, i cannot stop you. but i hope you will take the feedback positively. restaurants usually tell customers not to believe pictures in the menu, also, how is one supposed to SEE if the salad has dressing?????? okay. i will keep a lookout that all the dishes match...
Read moreI 'discovered' this place in March 21, had breakfast, and was absolutely over the moon about the experience. Everything was outstanding: classy and warm atmosphere, high quality food, super friendly staff, reasonable prices. One year later, probably due to Covid debacle, only the bakery part was open. Today I'm in Hat Yai again for 4 days so I went to try my luck and was thrilled because the restaurant is reopened. I had the American breakfast. Unfortunately I must reckon it's not a 5* any longer : the food and coffee are still good though not exceptional any more, and the staff were cold, not friendly at all. No smiles. A bit...
