KABOCHA SUSHI @HOMEPRO BANGNA KM1 (ชั้น 1) — Restaurant in Suan Luang Subdistrict

I just came from Hachioji, Japan. This is better. High quality ingredients, preparation and presentation. Generous portion of side dishes.

I had the Wednesday special - four large scallops with shitake and the largest shimije mushrooms I have ever seen, okra, onions(?) and a couple other green veggies added. Plus avocado maki, natto and seaweed salad for THB760. Context: I paid more for this glorified snack than I did for my hotel room tonight.

The main dish was bursting with umami. The wasabi (really horseradish?) was explosive.

My only complaint, and it is minor (and my own fault really) is this they added ingredients not in the photo menu: bonito shavings to the natto, quail egg to same, and roe to the seaweed salad. Ostro-vegans be warned. Freebie edamame and some sort of deep-fried tiny fish. Also, I am not keen on all the collection of customer data to get the discount and the enforced 10% service charge. 'tip' plus VAT = 17% surcharge versus eating at a food court stall.

My favourite part of the light meal was the look of the dry brown leaf the dish came on its brazier. Elegant and simple. I poured the juices from the leaf into the last drop of my soup.

Who would guess that going shopping for storage organisers, an impromptu slip into a small restaurant would bring such delights?

Bad Service Very unprofessional service despite having so many staff in the small outlet. Keep forgetting our orders and request. When we first arrived at 11. 15am, we were told to come back at 11.30am when the shop opens. So booked table for 6 and it was confirmed by the staff with witness of their manager. When we came back at 11.35am, our table was not arranged and given to other customers who were sitting 4. They have totally forgotten about our booking. We were forced to squeezed in smaller table. Fresh and good quality sushi at a reasonable price. Everything that we have tried is great. The sushi were well crafted for both taste and presentation. Staffs were always attentive.
