A dramatic orange moon rose over the Gulf of Thailand as I sat at one of the beachfront tables in front of Lai’s Restaurant. This was one of the most romantic dinners I’ve had in ages. It would have been even more romantic if I had a girlfriend! Lai’s Beach Bar is one of my favorite restaurants in Thailand and if you don’t stop by for some food on your visit to Koh Tao you are missing some fresh and tasty creations. There are no hamburgers on the menu but she makes a very nice chicken burger by grinding her own chicken. Order the French Fries to go with it and you’ll be smiling. Her dishes are large and, if shared, will go a long way. One order each of the green papaya salad and Pad Thai will easily feed three. One of my favorite dishes is her Tom Yum Seafood Soup. I haven’t had better. The grand climax can come in the form of Lai’s unique mango with sticky rice dessert. It is exceptional. Combine a day of snorkeling Tanote Bay with a meal at Lai’s and you will be very contented at the end of the day. I need to mention a favorite beverage...the coconut shake. Sometimes I will ask for the banana-coconut shake and sometimes the banana- coconut shake with rum...all good. Sometimes they catch fresh fish at night after the restaurant closes. It turns into a wonderful fish tempura or if you like grilled whole fish. Try the shrimp tempura and spring rolls too. I just can’t stop! Lai knows what she’s doing, is very thoughtful and Extremely friendly....always...
Read moreGreat beach bar with direct view of the ocean and also got two sunbeds. We ordered cocunut and passion fruit shake which were super yummy. Also we had seafood with garlic and pad thai with veggies and tofu. The seafood was good but tasted a lot of garlic and nothing else. The pad thai was really good! We also had some French fries - they were okay but they unfortunately didn’t have mayonnaise. The service is okay - you need to write your order down yourself which seems weird but is okay. The food is good and also the view/atmosphere is great. Good spot to have drinks or lunch when you’re at the...
Read moreVery nice place! The northeast Thai food is very authentic, delicious and of course spicy if you ask for it. The staff is very friendly and always courteous. The restaurant, built in a traditional Thai style, offers comfortable shady places in the upper floor during the hot midday hours and an incredible view over the beautiful Tanote bay. In the evening, this cozy location is the best choice for a delicious dinner or just to enjoy a cold drink and meet some nice people. Looking forward to go there...
