The Roof Samui — Restaurant in Surat Thani Province

The Roof is a great place to have a drink or food. The view from the raised platform is great as you can see half of Ko Samui and even Ko Phangan in nearly every weather. (We were here in the rain). The way to the mountaintop is hazardous with many cars and should only be tried by experienced drivers. Luckily the Roof offers a shuttle service from a parking lot at the foot of the mountain for 50 Baht p.p. which is in and of itself a little adventure with rollercoaster vibes. Drinks and food are slightly expensive but delicious. We had the stir fried chicken and a Pangan Curry and Mango Smoothie as well as Exotic Mango for drinks. Beware that 10% service charge will be added on the listed prices. (As well noted on the menu) The toilets are very basic and ok. If you are squeamish you should probably hold it. I would recommend taking the trip to the Roof Samui when you are on the island. Either just take a drink and a photo, go for a full fletched dinner or party the night away, whatever suits you fancy. View: amazing! Road there: kinda rollercoaster-ish. Trip there and back in one of their cars is 50 bahts per person. Don't risk it with a scooter or your own car imho. Food: not bad nor expensive as someone was saying. Drinks: margarita was good. beer was cold.

Why 3 stars then? We went on Valentine's for lunch (that drive at night? No, thank you). We had made a reservation and all. So here we are, chilling in the shade on a very hot day, drinking our drinks, enjoying the view and the music...when an electric drill starts. Tried blocking it our, not let it get the best of us, we wanted to enjoy our time. We lost it when stronger power tools were engaged, ruining all the good vibe. When we asked them to stop, they said they have a lot of dinner reservations for Valentine's and have to prepare... I'm like... Valentine's is all day! Why didn't you work on this the mornings before Vday when you wouldn't have had bothered anyone? Are we, the rest of your paying customers, not worth the same respect, quiet...

I really liked this restaurant.... It's up a very steep road... And the drive up was very scary but exciting at the same time. The roof has its own drivers with their own trucks to take you up and down. Please, if you've rented a scooter,do not try to ride up there.... it's not worth the risk . Especially after dark. Now then upon reaching the top you are greeted by the restaurant staff,we booked in advance so we were led to our table straight away. The views are outstanding,you can see for miles. Our table was booked for 6 pm so there was still daylight for the photos. Even when it got dark the views were still outstanding. You sit on bean bags and believe it or not,it was really comfy. The food was excellent and the staff were really nice and polite. I would highly recommend the roof, it's well worth a visit. Great night out.
