My visit on the day before Mother's Day 2024 was my second visit to this authentic Indian restaurant. I took my girlfriend to the buffet on Valentines Day on the first visit. On both occasions, the food was the drawing card. You won't be disappointed.
The Rasam (a spicy, South Indian soup-like dish) Restaurant is located in the Heartland Plaza in Chaguanas. We were a group of four with a reservation. Upon our arrival, the staff elected to place us near the cash at the last remaining booth instead of a table (we were early). A big blunder, but it never became an issue because another booth opened up. We were seated in a more reasonable location and our server proceeded to serve us impeccably throughout.
We began with drinks (taxed and virgin). The "Bentley" were more like Sprite. The "Mojito" was excellent (recommended). The strawberry daiquiri adequate. Now to the food. We opted for an assortment of dishes from Biryani to an eggplant dish. Both were to die for! The other dishes ranged from veggies to a chicken dish similar to a Sweet and Sour Asian one. You cannot miss with anything you order! The chef is clearly a professional. Two of the ladies shared a cottage cheese-based dessert and loved it. Dessert options were sadly limited.
The environment is quiet and clean. The staff pleasant. Parking is plentiful (Saturday around 6:00). The bill for four adults came to close to $800 TT. Clearly not cheap, but for the quality, today, it was reasonable.
For improvement, serving tap water at a "Fine Dining Restaurant" is clearly a huge no-no. In addition, allowing diners to go upstairs when we were told it was closed, is very, very poor form. An explanation should have been proffered after the fact. None was forthcoming. Lastly, more dessert options would strengthen the restaurants reputation as a fine dining experience.
All in all, I would not hesitate to return to Rasam. It has too much going for it and the food is beyond belief.
Note: The bottom floor is being converted to a Texas Steakhouse and Rasam will continue upstairs. There's a street racing crowd who frequents Heartland after hours and they eat...
ย ย ย Read morewe decided to visit Rasam Restaurant at Heartland Plaza that specializes in authentic Indian cuisine. We were excited to delve a little more into these kinds of flavors as it's very unique compared to local Indian cuisine. Rasam also has on their menu Cantonese, Thai, Chinese and Continental dishes. We were able to taste items from each menu along with a few drinks. The flavours are quite bold especially the items with the Galangal Spice which they grow themselves to ensure freshess . Rendel took a while to get used to some of the flavours. We absolutely loved the Cantonese fried rice, Vegetable Biryani, Garlic Naan and the Chicken in green curry. The drinks were absolutely refreshing especially the passionfruit and cane, the lime mojito mocktail and the exotic chillers. It's always a privilege to meet the chef that makes you wonderful food and Chef Tam Bahadur Rayamajhi is very skilled, hardworking and bubbly. With lovely staff and inviting decor Rasam Restaurant is also available for all of your special occasions from weddings, intimate parties or...
