Amazing Indian Food! Food wise, I think this is one of the top 3 Indian restaurants in Trinidad. The Lamb Biryani here is even better than most of the more expensive restaurants. The paneer here is really good quality unlike the generic frozen paneer that you get at most places.
The desserts here are really good especially the Rasmalai and Jelebi. Though the kulfi was one of the worst that I’ve tasted.
The restaurant itself is unimpressive, decor is underwhelming. I don’t particularly like the smell of the restaurant, “cheap soap” is the only way I can describe it. The parking lot is sloped forward which makes it tricky to reverse onto the road when it’s busy. Because of the slope, there is a step up to enter the store and step down immediately after, makes it difficult to enter sometimes if cars are parked close to the door. The mat inside the restaurant upon step down is a studded rubber mat which makes you feel unbalanced.
Though the restaurant itself is lacking, the food is worthy of a 5 star review. Biryani, masala and dessert they’re all very well made.
The taste has been inconsistent over the last 3 months but it’s always good and I can’t say that I didn’t get my...
Read moreAs part of restaurant week 2021, today I ordered the special for seven people. Last year, I ordered the same special at least five times during restaurant week (and loved it) so I was thrilled to be back. This year, regrettably, the food was totally not up to par. The nan was heavy with oil, and a bit stiff. The chicken seriously lacked flavor and tasted bland. The channa had a good consistency, but was flavorless. The dhal seem to be missing flavor also. I’m not sure but maybe they forgot to add salt, and other spices. Adding pepper sauce, and some salt was able to improve the meal for the four of us, but still nowhere near the quality of last year. The vegetable soup tasted the same as last year and so too were the vegetable wontons (great). The sweets were also good. However the actual food was incredibly disappointing compared to the quality from last year. There was a distinct lack of flavor, spice, and,...
Read moreI ordered from Himchuli today, hoping for a good meal, but unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. I got the Hakka rice and spicy chicken – $99 for a large and $55 for a small. Right away, the portion size was underwhelming for the price, but I still held out hope for the taste.
Sadly, the food was outright terrible. The Hakka rice tasted like plain boiled vegetables and rice mixed together—nothing close to actual Hakka flavors. As for the spicy chicken, it barely had any meat! I was given mostly bones—a piece of back with neck, a rib, a bottom piece, and a tiny inch of breast. If you're charging premium prices, the least you can do is serve proper boneless meat or decent portions.
To make things worse, I tried calling to complain, but no one answered. This experience was beyond disappointing, and I definitely won’t be buying from here again. Selling food like this is...
