My first time in Bebek so thought it would be good to go to a place that did a good brunch with a nice view of the Bosphorus. You do have to walk up a lot of stairs to get to the place. The views are lovely and the whole place has an upmarket and chic vibe. No chance of a table outside so if you do want one, call and reserve in advance.
Positives: very good food with clear attention to detail and use of good ingredients. The views are amazing and if you do get to sit outside then you will reap the benefits. The place is clean and chic with lots of nice touches.
Negatives: if you come with children then it’s very unlikely that you’ll be welcomed here. The service was cold and unfriendly. Yes we were a large party and we had small children who were not always perfectly behaved but we were paying customers and the children were under control. We had to repeat ourselves to the waitress on a number of occasions but when we asked for the bill, she couldn’t have moved faster. We were out in the terrace for a minute just trying to enjoy the view but we were told quite abruptly to leave as there were people waiting who had reserved. Of course, we understood that we had to make space for them but the same thing could have been asked of us in a more polite way. We were made to feel very unwelcome because we didn’t quite fit the mould of the type of clientele they probably prefer to have in their restaurant.
All I will say is that the management of the restaurant are unlikely to change their attitude to families with small children as it’s clear that that type of client is...

Today, I visited Mangiaeri in Bebek after a long time to meet two Italian female friends. As I arrived, the man standing at the entrance gave me a look that made me feel the need to explain myself: “I came to see two Italian friends,” I said. His response? “Well then, go ahead.”
He then kept walking behind me, watching me closely, and asked, “Are you here for the person on the balcony?” I said “Yes,” but that wasn’t even the friend I was there to see.
Inside, I couldn’t find my actual friends, so I stepped outside to call them. Later, I found out that the same staff member had gone over to their table, but somehow failed to realize they were expecting someone—or simply didn’t care.
Back inside, I asked a female staff member three times if I could have a chair. She didn’t respond or even make eye contact. She vaguely gestured to another waiter behind her. I asked him as well, but he didn’t reply either. Eventually, the man at the door came back and said: “I’m sorry, I can’t bring a chair here.” He didn’t offer any solution or try to help in any way.
This place was part of my childhood memories, but today reminded me why I hadn’t been back in years. I had to spend half an hour standing just to greet my friend—because they wouldn’t offer me even a basic alternative. Courtesy, communication, hospitality… none of it was present. With service like this, I certainly won’t...
Read moreOur 2nd visit (first was Feb 2019) as a couple. Mangerie is a destination breakfast experience so be warned that you must climb a good few steps above Nus-r-et to get there.
Arrived without reservation (mistake on our part), so could not be accommodated outside due to tables being "reserved", even though three tables were never eventually occupied in our time there. The table offered to us inside came with a 2 hour time limit.
Food was average, needless to say extremely pricey. What was 50TL 4 years ago is now more than 400TL. To cough up 550TL for 4 capuccinos (you can't have one because of the small cup size) is simply ludicrous.
Pancakes came without butter (request for butter was charged separately at 85TL without notice) and 10% service charge for 2 person without notice also spoilt the experience. Honey was offered and then removed prior to completion of meal. Fruit accompanying pancakes was sour. Eggs and avo on toast was good without being exceptional. Tashas in South Africa will teach this place a few things about asparagus, hollandaise sauce and fresh lemon.
Mangerie has a great atmosphere with beautiful people but as a destination breakfast venue is extremely overpriced with poor service.
Afterwards walked in the street outside and saw many more popular breakfast venues right on the Bosphorus so scrap Mangerie's view as an edge - it simply isn't worth the climb. No...
